Famous people with Mental Illness

Juanita-

Good idea! I did the search as you suggested. It definitely makes you feel less alone to know that even celebrities deal with some of this stuff. The fact that John Mayer always keeps a bottle of Xanax handy sort of put things in perspective for me, ha! Sometimes I feel very isolated because so many people around me don't understand what I'm dealing with. Of course all of you here on the forums have helped a lot with that feeling too

I saw Kim Bassinger on a talk show once, talking about her panic, and I just googled"stars with anxiety disorders"...wow, Teebs, if that interests you, there are a lot of them out there, it says even Johnny Depp! there you go...gorgeous, and  has panic....check  it out. ha

Hi:  I remember my doctor telling me Sir Laurence Olivier - a great stage actor - would take propranolol (not sure of sp.) to  slow his heart rate down before going on stage.  He had performance anxiety.

Hi Teebs,

A few people that come to mind are;  Donny Osmond, the lead singer of Alabama
John Melencamp, Heather Locklear, and I heard that Lady Ga Ga can not be alone.
These are all people that are very artistic and in the public eye so to speak, I would say
that they have high stress levels also.  I like when a public person speaks out about
their challenges it not only helps them it helps others also. In the end we are all just people
living the journey of life.

Interesting post Ashley.

Just curious, does anyone know of any famous people that suffered from panic attacks?

Members,

Mental illness can affect everyone. Famous people are no exception.

Famous mathematician Isaac Newton suffered from nervous breakdowns.  Some people have said he may have suffered from Bipolar Disorder.

Beethoven was said to suffer from Bipolar Disorder as well.

Abraham Lincoln – it is said he suffered from a very severe depression.  He was driven to overcome his depression and still be successful as a President.

Brook Shields – She wrote a book on her postpartum depression entitled ‘Down Came the Rain: My Journey Through Postpartum Depression”
