I did it!

Hiya guys,

Thank you Dazedmommy and georgie for the congratulations :) It means a lot to me.

Sorry Miki for not answering till now. It has been a while since I logged on. Well, I personnally didn'T tell any of my professors for a very long time. I did not know  how they would react since I did not know them. So i just delt with it in my own way. I must admit tho that where I studied it was possible to get up during class and leave the room without too much  explanation to the teacher during normal class hours. That made it easier since I knew I could go and clam down any time I wanted.

But I did have a relapse while I was in school. I relapsed in december just before I signed up here. IT was bad at the time. But I didn't want to throw my school term away. I didn't go to my last classes but I had a colleague lend me their notes and I made sure to go to my exams. So I basically did all my exams in abject terror... Not fun! But that is when I told some of my professors about my condition. I was lucky tho. Those professors, I knew them pretty well by now and I knew they would understand.  They were super nice about it. One even became my thesis advisor.  Goes to show you wanna be careful about who you tell but that some will be quite nice about it. Me personnally telling three out  of four of my professors that semester enabled me to do my exams.  But to this days some of the professors I haven't told. Not all of them understand theese things...

Anyway, hope this helps.

I think it is great that you are going back to class! Congratulations :) If I can do it you can too!

Hi Dazedmommy,
thanks again for the input. I didn't really think about how some might be not understanding. That is a good idea to check out the councelors at school. I will do that.

Hi Miki

That's terrific news about going back to school. I've gone back and it has been wonderful so far.

I know you asked Diva but I just thought I would share my experience.

Although we are a pretty educated and open society there are some people who are not as "understanding" or are considered "old school" .  When my anxiety first appeared years ago I was in college and did share it with a few of my professors.  Some were understanding some were not... and that can be very uncomfortable.  My suggestion would be to talk to your counsellor at school as all Uni's or colleges have them and  get their suggestions.  They are experienced with this and definately would know how to go about it in the best possible way for your institution...

Hope this helps...

Hi Diva, I was wondering when you were in school, did you tell your professors about your condition? I am planning to start school from the fall (following your foot steps, psychology major!) and I was wondering how you dealt with the days you had panic during class. I wonder if it's better for me to just tell the professors when I need to just walk out of class etc. I think I will do that, but was wondering if you did too.
