Quitting AGAIN

Gus,
Welcome back!  Do you remember if you and I had conversation before?  It would have been about a month ago.  I know I corresponded with someone named Gus, just don't know if it was you or not.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. It truly does give me hope.

Ashley, thanks for the advice. What do I have gain by not drinking?
1)I dont want my kids to look back in 20 years and say"My dad was a drunk."
2)I will gain alot of extra money. I am spending $20 per day or more. $7300 for the year. Thats ALOT of money!
3)I will have better health. Right now I have a beer belly due to drinking.
4)I want to live to be an old man. Some family members of mine died prematurely due to drinking.
5)I want to feel well again when I wake up in the morning, not cloudy and guilty.

Thats just 5 good reasons to quit.

Hi Gus;

Welcome! I am a new member also, just joined this morning and the people on here have already provided me with so much support... in literally a matter of hours.
I decided today will be my day one, and I am proud of you for making that choice for yourself also. June 14th is a big day for us!
It is going to be hard, we know that, but it has been done many times and we are capable of making our lives better for ourselves and for our families.

Happy Father's Day! I grew up with an alcoholic father (and mother) and it is very hard to see people hurt themselves - thank you for being responsible and taking the first step of admitting you have a problem. My has never done that, and it hurts me everyday.

Bestest,

Cassy

Gus, happy fathers day. Seeking help needs courage. Some people can't do this alone. You may want to seek some help from folks about AA. Also you may want to see if you can recognize the disease concepts of AA by reading the book
http://www.aa.org/pages/en_US/alcoholics-anonymous. There is the Doctors Opinion and More About Alcoholism chapters nicely illustrates how an alcoholic at times can't enforce his will power when it comes to alcohol. He may be strong, intelligent in all other areas but when it comes to booze, he/she just loses the fight. That could happen in a day, a week, or even months, but without a psychic change, we are bound to loose the battle.

Good plan Gus. That is a great goal and a very positive decision. Speaking for myself, I can tell you that you have a lot to look forward to if you stick to your plan. And yes, the withdrawal is a bear. I had the flu the other day for the first time since I quit and I can't believe I used to do that to myself. Ouch!..You sound like me a short time ago. You're making a really good decision.

Welcome to the site.

All the best,

Hi Gus,

Sorry to hear that today was hard for you. Check out the education section for information on withdrawal. If you’re having symptoms such as trembling or sweating you should see a health care professional immediately. These symptoms could lead to convulsions or hallucinations, the most severe effects of alcohol withdrawal.

It sounds like you really want to make this change permanent...it also sounds like you have a lot to lose if you don't maintain this change. But what do you have to gain. How will your life be different if you are able to successfully stop drinking?

I want to look back from Fathers Day in 2015 and look at how much my life has improved since I stopped drinking. I dont want to drink anymore. I am hurting those around me, and I have to stop, or I will lose everything. Today  was tough. I know now what withdrawl feels like, and man, I dont ever want to feel this way again.
