Hi Gus,
Hope you're having a good start to your weekend and that you are continuing down your path strong & alcohol free. Let us know how you are doing when you get a chance!  Here for you,

Day 10 and counting. My taste buds are revived, and food tastes alot better as a result. No cloud over my head when I wake up. No guilty feelings about drinking the night before. And no hangover! I hate hangovers. Didnt know how bad of an effect they had on me until I stopped having them.

Thanks again everyone for the encouragement. This forum is very important for me. I can't get support from those around me. I am afraid to open up to those close to me, because I am afraid of getting judged or being labelled an alcoholic. I see people around me with substance abuse issues getting that unfair label stamped on their backs. Even some of them who havent drank in years are stil referred to as alcoholics.

I have had family members who have substance abuse issues, and their issues are so much more complicated than just "He/She is an alcolohic." In my estimation, they have suffered from various forms of mental health issues, including anxiety, OCD and Depression. Alcohol was their pain medication. An unhealthy medication, but a medication nevertheless.

Thanks again.

So I havent drank in a week. This is the longest time I have gone since I was 14 year old (I am in my 40s).

So for those of you just starting off, here is what I experienced in my first week:

*I had withdrawl for a couple days. That was tough. But lots of carbonated water and pop to replace alcohol did the trick for me. And lots of support from this site. I have no cravings right now (not to say it wont happen down the road).
*Having a clear head every day, with no hangover, is an unbelieveable feeling. I can think all day, which I could not do when I was hungover.
*I have had a closer relationship with my kids this week. I didn't realize what I was missing out on until I stopped.
*And the best feeling of all, no guilt about drinking the next day!

And if you tried to quit before, and it didnt work, thats OK. You can try again.
Good luck to everyone, and thanks for the support.

Good morning Gus,
Glad to have you back.  As for me, I am still here and have had some accomplishments but many disappointments and struggles.
I saw your other post about sleep.  That has been a constant problem with me when I am not drinking.  Dave provided two good resources that have helped a little.  I have found that a morning after no sleep is better than a morning after alcohol.
Hope you have a great Father's Day!
