You are so right Foxman. In my case, one drink leads to many more. So, I simply cannot have that one drink. Before Christmas I had purchased wine, spirits and beer for my guests. My guests are "normal" drinkers and I had a lot of booze left in the house after they left. For the next several days I justified drinking every last drop by myself, because it was Christmas...a time to celebrate. I would even take a glass with me when I retired for the evening, wake up in the middle of the night and drink it. When I reflected on what I had done, how I felt while/after doing it and whether this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, I knew it wasn't which is why I am here. Hoppo, I know there are a lot of people who after long time alcohol abuse believe they can magically control their drinking but I wonder what percentage actually succeed. Personally, it has been a roller coaster and I am done trying to moderate. Only you can decide what kind of drinker you are Hoppo by being brutally honest with yourself.

Am sorry to say again that my Will power gave in.

Some of our kind, the will power is non-existent when it comes to dealing with alcohol. We succumb to that thought that we could drink like normal people. In reality we can't.

Am sorry to say again that my Will power gave in. On the positive side I only drank a half of what I would have done usually on a Friday night and another plus is that I didn't go to the pub after work. I thought I could go without totally from the start but finding it difficult. I think a little less often leading to my goal.
Please advise if this is normal?

Hey Hoppo....we all have had slips.......and we resolve to not let it happen again.....my strategy is to forgive myself first and then start over, fresh, the next day......my goal was to cut down my drinking and for the last 14 days I have done that.....used to drink a bottle of wine at a time and recently I have been able to have a glass or two by just reminding myself of what my goal is.

Thanks for being honest Hoppo. That takes a lot of courage. But there is no need to apologize. Slips like this, as hard and disappointing as they are, are also part of the learning process. It sounds like you learned you cannot keep alcohol in the house at this point. This is an important realization. How can you ensure you keep alcohol out of the house from now on?

Sorry but I have let myself down. Had some beer bought from colleague at work, I had forgot about it until later today. Sadly I have drank them, if it wasn't there I am positive I would have been ok and not had anything. Tomorrow is another day and I won't drink. Sorry.
