Congratulations on the pregnancy!! What an awesome motivator to quit smoking.  Making something for the baby is a great idea to keep your hands busy. Dont be too hard on yourself ...its not an easy thing to do but it doesnt have to be as hard as you fear either. Its a matter of the brain receiving the message that this means no more. Youre off to a good start. Keeping my mind occupied has been important for me in these early days. Keep us posted.

Hi Flutterby89,
Welcome to the Stop Smoking Center! How are you doing so far? Congratulations on quitting smoking and on the expected baby too. Drinking lots of water in the beginning of a quit is very good for you. It helps to flush out the poisons that have accumulated in your body over the years of smoking.
As for keeping your hands busy, a stress ball and rubber bands work And knitting or crochet needles for making something special for the little one should do the trick too!  Keep the thoughts of your baby as motivation to stay smoke free. I wish you the best on your quit journey.
Stay strong and keep us updated with your progress.

First of all congrats on the new baby on the way. I can tell you that after smoking 30+ years quitting was not an easy decision for me. I have been some free now for 15 days and am also using the patch. It will get easier. For me the first week was the most difficult. Try to change up your daily routine and do things in a different order. To keep my hands busy I use my car keys and just shuffle them in my hand. As silly as that sounds it just keeps my hands occupied and my brain off the habit of thinking about smoking. Pay attention to what your triggers are and make changes as needed. For me I focus on staying smoke free one hour at a time, one day at a time. YOU can do this, don't give in to the nicotine devil!!!

Hi everyone i quit smoking yesterday my reason we are extremely happy to announce we are due a baby on 21st august. I have had problems with fertility in past and always blamed smoking. I am on patches and determined for my babies sake i want to lower risk of stillbirth miscarriage and premature birth. Im scared i will fail but im putting my child first no matter what. I dreamt about cigarettes all night but woke up for loo as usual no cigarette then woke up normal time had glass water some fruit and i feel fine no feeling i need a fag. 16 hours smoke free last night i binned all lighters and ashtrays outside as we are telling visitors smoke outside. My hands are very fidgety not sure what to do with them now. Thanks for any supportive comments.
