Hi Tim,

Thanks so much for your reply! The cravings are only occasional now,  and they mostly occur during times of stress and boredom. I have managed to turn down cigarette offers from everyone with ease which has surprised me greatly!

I am still really enjoying smelling nice and having a clean, fresh tasting mouth.

Sparrow! I'd love to be your quit buddy! Let me know if you would like my no. or social media so we can update each other on our progress.

Thank you so much for your advice on the scan, I'm really happy for you that yours was normal. Fingers crossed for me too!

The anxiety has subsided somewhat, I'm now on day 12!

Hi Eliza
Im also on day 3. Maybe we can kick this together...wouldnt that be awesome!
I was worried about the exact same thing so l asked my doctor for a chest xray. It came up completely normal and lve been smoking for 26yrs so l was very relieved and glad l did the xray.
Get it done for your piece of mind.
Keep in mind its surprising what our bodies can take....the punishment we give them. The human body is womderful at regenerating and like Tim said oir bodies are already starting to heal so thats a comforting thought.
Good luck!

Hi Eliza,
"I am now very anxious that I may get lung, mouth, tongue or throat cancer prematurely - even within the next couple of years!" You have stopped smoking, and that is a great start to making your life healthier. Eat healthy foods, exercise daily and yearly doctor exams are all you can do now. "It is consuming my thoughts" Try not to let it consume your thoughts, that will not help you at all. Think positive thoughts, not negative. Your body is already starting to heal itself since your last cigarette. It does take time to repair all the damage we did to it by smoking, but our bodies are resilient. "shall I go and see a doctor, explain I've quit and get them to do some tests just for reassurance" That may be a good idea for you. Depending on how much and how long you smoked, there are tests that can be ran to give you some reassurance. I know in the states, if you have smoked for over 30 years, they can run a low dose radiation cat scan to check for any abnormality's. They can probably do that in the UK too along with other tests. Discuss your anxiety with your doctor, and he/she can take it from there and do what they think is appropriate for you. It's good to hear that you are still smoke free too!  Are your urges starting to subside yet?
Stay strong Eliza.

Hi Tim,

Thank you for replying! It feels good to know I'm not doing this alone! I'm on my third day currently and it's going well. I don't use nicotine replacement therapy because for me personally, I would then still be feeding my nicotine addiction, which is what I'm trying to break.

I have been craving like mad this morning, but I keep on reading through things on here and distracting myself.

Hi Eliza,
Welcome to the stop smoking center. You made it through your first day without smoking, how is the second day going for you?  Are you doing this cold turkey or are you using nicotine replacement therapy? Have you tried to quit before? "Really excited to be able to improve my fitness and enjoy life to the fullest." As an ex-smoker myself, I agree wholeheartedly. Life IS really better without that nasty habit.  I wish you the best on your quit journey. Keep us updated with your progress won't you?
Stay strong and watch out for those triggers.

Stopped yesterday, over 24 hours now without a cigarette. If I've made it 24 hours, I can do another 24 hours and so on...

Really excited to be able to improve my fitness and enjoy life to the fullest. Am reaching out for community support because I know it's the only way that I've ever managed to successfully maintain anything, is through connection with others in similar circumstances. If anyone wants to be stopping buddies, I'm in!

I'm from London in the UK, so if you're abroad we can always whatsapp if texting is too expensive.
