Thanks for the message, Tim. I'm holding my own here and feeling good.  I'm rewarding myself with doing some overtime work this weekend - haha!  Joking. Well, not about the work, but it being a reward.  Other than that, yes, I am taking care to make sure I feel recognized for what I'm doing.   Have a good weekend!

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

John, you are right. It's funny, I woke up this morning thinking a bit about my Dad.  He didn't get the chance to quit before he died though I know he thought about it a lot.  What I was remembering was him saying that he would go all night while asleep without smoking; he'd light a cigarette while working on the computer or something else and it would burn to the butt in the ash tray without another drag on it. All the ones that he didn't need, but yet he never got to the point of not needing them entirely.  I think he was close.  His death wasn't smoking related, but I don't think smoking helped the health challenges he had - he would've been better off had he quit, rightly.  I will take a look for that video soon.  I think what I like is that I'm still wasting a good amount of time a day...but it feels like in a more relaxed fashion and I'm not wasting it by torturing myself either and that feels great!

Jim, that's great that you've got more Canadian quit buddies and know our National pastime - drinking coffee at Tim Horton's LOL. Actually, they have been making their way into some of the Northern states now. We're converting the USA, a little at a time! HAHA.  I was quite pleased with that reward because I have made it a treat since buying the house instead of an everyday thing, except for certain times during the year.  It's an easy one, and less than $2 for a coffee each day is waaaaay better than a pack of smokes!

Hi again guys So to Motivated and all other ex-smokers. At 7 days post quit there is no more nicotine in ones body or nicotine related withdrawal symptoms to deal with. From now on one must deal with the psychological and behavioral difficulties. It's not easy to conqueror them because smoking has been an integral part of our lives for ages. Although not easy achieving it is not hard either. My personal belief is if a smoker can go a week without smoking then there is absolutely no reason for him/her ever to smoke again. As many have said before me life just gets better in every way and also there is in effect nothing to give up. Apart from the money one saves and the health benefits one of the greatest things we receive is "time". We realize all the time we wasted smoking, now we can really enjoy our time. So everyone just keep up your good work. Just whatever you do don't smoke... Check out Yul Brynners don't smoke video on you tube. He had a great voice and was a great man. John

Right on, "L"!!!

I do know Tim Horton's!  I met a quit buddy from the SSC at one on Niagara Falls Blvd in NY about 3 years ago!  I'm hoping to meet up with him again this summer when I visit family up north.  It would be great to cross the Peace Bridge to visit some of my Canadian quit buddies, too if time permits!  I'm glad that you are taking the reward aspect of your quit to heart, because it really does help!  I'm sure the caffine helps too!    Yes, I do approve!

Hey Jim, you are right. There are hurdles and I'm thankful to still be jumping and trying to keep ahead of them in my mind. I think you'll like the reward I decided on today. I'm Canadian and we have Tim Horton's coffee shops (kinda like Dunkin Donuts). Since I bought my house a few years back, I have tried to refrain from buying a coffee daily on the way in to work unless I have a gift card someone gave me...and even if I do have a gift card, I try to save them for Feb/March when Tim Horton's runs a contest. Well, this morning I thought it would be a good reward - for the next while - to buy myself a coffee on the way in to work. So I did and it was great. I knew you'd approve Jim, LOL :)

Well done, "L"!!!

It can be very empowering when you overcome new hurdles!  Your preparation really is serving you well.  Stay strong and ready for the triggers that you will continue to face for a while.  As long as you are committed to N.O.P.E. and treat yourself well with rewards you will continue to do great!

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

John! Amazing that didn't trigger a craving lol . And THANK YOU - I'm feeling good.  I was out for dinner last night and after that, had a urge, I wouldn't even call it a big urge, just an urge, to go buy a pack of smokes.  But didn't.  Got in my car, drove home, reminded myself how I feel about not smoking (better than smoking and having to smoke) and went to bed.  All was well.    Plus, I'm getting up there in days and kinda have a "be damned if I start at 1 again" feeling right now!

Tim - I am feeling really great and wonderfully free right now.  Enjoying the mornings without getting up, dressed, coffee on and ready, poured, out to the garage (in whatever the weather) to smoke.  It is more relaxed, I've been sleeping in a bit.

And I've actually told 3 people now. I mentioned it to a work colleague over the phone the day before yesterday, but it was more of an in passing comment as we were talking about something else - trying it on for size kinda thing lol.  Then last night I spoke to my Aunt and saw my brother and told them both.  My Aunt is a long time smoker and she thought it was fantastic. My brother is a life long non-smoker and, I think, is cautiously optimistic for me and will help me how he can.
Jim, I think that's partly why I haven't been telling too many people - that they expect me to be miserable and I'm not.  It helps that I haven't smoked at morning and afternoon work breaks since the early fall when it started to get cold.  That way, I already changed that pattern that some may observe with a quit months and months ago.  I look at some of the things I've done that way over the years (not smoking at work, not smoking in the house, not smoking until I've been up for an hour) and think that they were part of my gearing up to quit overall.  Maybe something to it.

All is good. Thanks so much for the support, all of you!
