Hi motivated,

I haven't seen too many come on here with your attitude but those that do have all turned out winners. That is why I have no doubt that you will get this done.

There may be a few shaky moments along the way but you have the arsenal to cope and you also know where to come and what to ask if you need help.

Belated welcome motivated and congratulations on rapidly becoming a confirmed ex-smoker!

Best Wishes,
Penitent

Hi Working On It,

Thanks for the message, I am still figuring out how to know when someone's posted on a thread I'm in and almost missed this one.  I think there's something strange about my account...I digress...

Things are going ok.  I have been taking it slow and steady like your signature says.  I'm extremely happy to be free - it's such an empowering feeling. It doesn't mean that my mind doesn't "go there" sometimes still...I just am working on reminding it that it no longer needs to.

Hi Ashley, and thank you!

What I'm working on today is having the laziest Saturday I can (I might have to go in to work this afternoon) and also reading Allen Carr's Easyway. It has helped me in the past with my mind set and I hope it will again.  That is always a key for me - to battle feeling sorry for myself and that I'm missing out...when really, I'm not.  I find the posts here from those who have Quit so inspiring, they are enjoying happy lives as non-smokers and once stood where I do.

I am ready for it. It's time for me to be free and I want to keep the excitement of that at the forefront of my mind.

Congratulations on getting through day one!

I have read a few posts from you now and I have to say I am quite  impressed. Your username really suits you. With your drive and determination you will go far in this quit. Truely, great work. It`s not easy to face this addiction and it sounds like you  are  doing all the right things. It sounds  like you really want to face this and you are ready for it.

How can you ensure you  stay motivated even when times get tough?

Hi Lolly and thanks so much for the warm welcome!

I feel I am pulling out as many stops as I can to get the job done this time, kind of like you explain with "Whatever it takes, just don't smoke!"  I have a couple of plastic fake cigarettes - they have some smokey taste to them but more like BBQ than cigarette smoke - I bought years ago that I am going to dig out, you've reminded me of them.  I like the idea of them for the car better than the nicotine free e-cig, too.

I am  going to keep on the positive state of mind and self talk - I started a bit of a journal last night - and plan to beat the nicodemon down every time it pops up.  My plan this morning was pop some gum in my mouth as soon as I got up and it's working so far.

Thanks for introducing yourself and your vote of confidence, Lolly. Much appreciated!

Hello Motivated,

It does sound as if you are motivated to quit.   It really does not matter how you do it, just get on and do it!  As you will have seen, there are many methods used by us all on this site, and some cold turkeys failed, and some succeeded.  Some, like me, threw every NRT and anything else at it, hypnosis, tapes plastic in the mouth, iced water..........I succeeded!  It was not easy....in fact, it is one of the hardest things to do, but it is so worth it!!!  My mantra was, "Whatever it takes, just don't smoke!"  You would have laughed if you had seen some of the things I did, but it did not matter....those things put me off having a cigarette at that precise moment.

Do stay with us at SSC.  As you have found, there is a massive amount to help you on this site. Quitting is indeed a battle that you MUST win!   As you realise, there is no magic button, but, if you think something will help you win this war, go for it!

The one thing that kept me going was a positive state of mind and a determination that the Nicodemon was NOT going to beat me!  That, above all else will help you.

Stay Strong!!!    Love Lolly.

Thanks for the welcome and vote of confidence, Tim! It's much appreciated. I am doing this Cold Turkey. Once, which seems a lifetime ago at times, I tried Zyban. It wasn't for me. When I slept, I had the craziest disturbing dreams and I didn't like the way I felt while taking it. It makes me hesitate to try the other drugs and I'm not sure about the gum, etc. I've bought the gum before, but never used it. I do have an e-cig (no nicotine) that I bought over the course of the last year. I haven't found it helpful while still smoking so am hesitant to try and use it as a replacement. I am going to speak to a chiropractor who does laser therapy, only because I've had a lot of success with chiropractic laser therapy for other ailments and am interested. I don't believe that there's going to be a magic button for me, though I wish there was. I believe, as you've suggested, that my biggest help will be keeping a positive attitude and reinforcing positive actions. I've dug up the N.O.P.E. and H.A.L.T.(E.D.) acronyms from my reading last night and jotted a few more things down on a piece of paper folded in my pocket. They've given me some strength today. Also, I've been reading through a lot more of the forums here, they're so helpful. I can do this! Thanks again. :) L.
