Hey Whisper!!!

Welcome to the SSC!!  From reading your thoughts, it sounds like you have the Positive Mental Attitude it will take to win your war against the nico-demon!  Just remember if you want your freedom more than you want to smoke, success will be yours!    It sounds like you have learned well from the Program!  Be sure to check out the Tools, too!  They can also be very helpful early on in your quit.

You are not alone in attempting numerous quits, but with the right support and mindset, you CAN do this!  You seem to have the proper mindset and you have found a great place to come for support!  Stick close and read and learn from your new quit buddies here.  Like Lolly said, there is a wealth of information here on the threads on the Forums!  If there is something in particular you would like to know, try the search button on the main Forum page or just ask!  Many of us know of some very inspirational and informative threads that we can find to "bump" forward for you to read.  And remember N. O. P. E. ... Not One Puff Ever!  That's THE way to stay quit!

HI All,

I have decided to quit smoking last week. The last cigarette I smoked was on February 15th at 4:21 AM. Today is my fourth day and doing good. My urges to smoke a cigarette are declining however at this time I feel the need to to be associated with a community/people that are going through the similar phase. Would appreciate your support/tips/ Anything that can help me stay focused not to smoke again. Ever!!! Congratulations and all the very best to the folks who have decided to quit smoking!

Thanks,

Hi whisper,

Congratulations on getting through Day 1. From what you wrote, it seems that you have learned a lot from your previous attempts. The knowledge that you cannot just have one is very powerful. It is also one of those things I have to remind myself of over and over.

Feel free to stop in here as often as you need to read or post.

Here's to a successful Day 2!

Thank you to you all for your lovely replies.I am so pleased that I have stumbled upon this site and this forum, the support and encouragement that I've received is amazing. I started to fill out my program yesterday and have read and printed out some of the really great tips and advice from it too.
So just to quickly update you all, I have survived my first day of being smoke free without too many cravings. This time I am more determined to quit than I have ever been before. I have learnt from past attempts that there is no such thing as "just one cigarette" and also that smoking doesn't relieve stress or take away any problems that I have, the problems will still be there after that "just one cigarette" has been smoked. I have also learn't that you don't have to smoke that "just one cigarette" to relax and enjoy the holiday that you'd been looking forward to all year round, and just wouldn't be the same without one.

This time I am armed with more knowledge and more determination than ever before. This time I will not be romancing the cigarette or looking back at my smoking days as glorious or happy days, but instead I will be looking at this quit as a way of freeing myself from my addiction and gaining control of my life.

Once again thank you for all your support and encouragement, I really appreciate it.

"The quit that sticks"...I like that...You have come to the right place.  When I set out on my journey to cessation, I too had tried before and returned to the dependency.  It may be true that one needs to have a few difficulties before they find a lasting success.  This is your time.  You have probably already learned that quitting is not a passive activity.  It is something that must be done through mental, emotional and physical commitment.

There are many kind souls here, who understand you and will listen and respond to your needs. There are some with whom you may not resonate, but there are many who will speak to you and you will find their stories to be your own.  Write often, offer your perspective and find your way out of the forest...

stay well

Hi Whisper,

The day has dawned when you can change your life forever.  It's totally up to you to be more determined to quit than to smoke.  It's that simple, but it's not easy!

I'm glad you found this site, as there is so much knowledge here, and knowledge is power.  With this power you can fight the battles with the Nicodemon, and finally win the war.
