Smoked for 37 years!

Yes it is very important to stay away from your hubby's tobacco at first! I quit 2 1/2 yrs ago and my hubby still smokes - but he is Not allowed to smoke in our collective air space.  We had to change our habits to accommodate my non smoking status. He does love me, so when he realized I was serious to maintain my quit for LIFE, he stepped up to the plate.  You do need to protect your quit above all else - all those side effects from nicotine (and habit) withdrawal begin to subside over time.  You're doing the best you can with it and we are proud of you here where the support is awesome!! Post away if you need to share - I hope you have a fine day - You are doing great to make it through HELL week DebSoFlo! Keep up the good work - you can do it!

Today is one week smoke free! I'm doing pretty darn good. Last night was the most challenging time for me and I was bingeing on food. I am having a hard time taking deep breaths / just feels so strange to take all that air in. My throat hurts like I have swollen glands. My heart has been racing at times. Last night I was bored and anxious. Even though I didn't handle all these feelings in the healthiest way, I didn't smoke. So I feel relieved this morning. My husband is still smoking but is trying to not smoke around me. I keep telling myself I don't want to be a drug addict! You all have been awesome. I depend on these forums for support over family and friends. Easier and safer to be more honest here and to hear the truth from others. So THANKS EVERYONE!

Dear DebSoFlo,

You are right, it probably is one of the most difficult things you have ever done, but you seem to be handling it all very well.  You are working out the patches problem, and not just giving up.

I smoked for 40 years and I have done it with the help here at SSC.  Stay with us and stay strong in yourself.  Don't let the Nicodemon into your thoughts!

Take one day at a time, and whatever it takes, just don't smoke!

You are on a roll, Deb.  YOU are in control and make a better life for YOU!  Great job.....One day at a time is a day won!

Keep the Quit,

Dave

Amazing Deb! Very hard to get through at first - but it gets so much better as time goes on - you will understand what you need for patches and the drug will leave your system in less time that you think.  Then you can focus on understanding your underlying reasons for smoking - you are in for a wonderful journey into your self that you can only grown on from here on in!  Alan Carr can help! Happy reading :)

Hey DebSoFlo,

You might need a lower dosage on that patch. If you find that you are getting cravings that you might give into, you might want to try a lower dose patch.

But if you are able to deal with the physical cravings for the next three days, you will no longer need to worry about nicotine replacement. The physical part will be over, and it's just a mental battle from there.

Thanks Ashley! Today I am doing well. I had to remove the nicotine patch. My heart was racing too much. Not feeling too bad. I am reading Allen Carr's Easyway to Stop Smoking. Just taking it day to day!!! Appreciating all the support here. Thanks so much again....

Welcome DebSoFlo!

Sounds like you are off to a great start. This is probably one of the most important challenges anyone has under taken. We`ll help you every step of the way. Start by reading through the program. Try out all the tools and search through the discussions and blogs. The more information you have the better!

You are right there is no magical cosmic time to quit lol. It sounds like you picked the perfect time though.

How are you feeling today?

There is a lot of info to seek out on the boards so have a look around.
