Hey Viv!!!

Huge congrats to you on making it through Heck Week!!!  You have the first two weeks, the hardest ones, under your belt!  Keep that Positive Mental Attitude going strong!  It really helps when everything else fails... like misplacing your Champix!!!     Getting caught up on your "homework" with updated lists will really help, too!  With your proper preparation and excellent attitude you have a great start on your forever quit!

           Way to go!!!

Thanks to all who have replied, it was great to see this support just before bedtime last night. I have misplaced the Champix so if not found before lunch today I continue without. Today I will definitely be spending more time on here following the advice you have given. My first target is to keep focused on the positives & kick the negative into touch. Thanks folks!

Hello VIV,

Welcome to the boards!  If you stay with us here, someone should be able to help you.  There already is a mass of great advice on this thread, especially from Jim.  Take heart and remain focused.  That niggly voice telling you the Champix is not working will continue to find other reasons to put you off your quit...it happened to me too, and I called it the Nicodemon...constantly trying to find a good excuse to stop the quit.
However, I agree with your doctor, if you feel depressed, not just moody, go back and see him.

I smoked about 30 a day for 40 years, so I know where you are coming from.  I also used every aid possible to quit, as I felt it had to be my forever quit.  I had bad dreams, extreme moodiness, lack of sleep, hot flashes, teeth problems, gas, and so it went on.  Realise that it took you 50 years to get where you are now, so it will take quite a while for your body and mind to adjust to the massive changes, but it can be done, and you know you can do it, as you did before.......only this time, you are not going to start again!

Have you worked yourself through the programme here on site?  Even though you have already quit, it's worth pretending you have not and working through it.  You may derive help from it.  Stay on site as often as you can, read, post and learn.  Knowledge is power and power behind you will keep you on the right road.

Remain strong and determined.

Love Lolly.

Welcome!! You came to the right place for support, which makes all the difference in the world when doing something this difficult. The last time I quit I used the patch & wellbutrin and made it 16mos. This time I cut down to 3 cig's a day b4 I quit & am using wellbutrin. Wellbutrin helps tremendously with the cravings. The mood swings do come and go but it's because we're  learning how to deal with our emotions without the use of nicotine. You can do this & your PMA will prevail :) wtg!!

Hi Viv,

Glad you found this site, it is amazingly helpful. In the morning instead of going outside for a smoke I sit here and drink my coffee and read, I find
it very helpful in the morning. I am on champix as well, I do have a few side effects, like a every few days I have really weird dreams. I do find them
funny and amusing. But my sleep is not that great, I have no trouble falling asleep but I wake up a couple of hours and stay awake for a couple. I am
trying a gravel tonight and hope that helps. I don't want to quit taking champix yet because I know I am not ready to do this alone.
These are what I use to help, ice water (I also eat the ice) plastic stir sticks, I always have one in my hands just to keep them busy, I have a stress ball,
gum and hard candies. Also in the evening a nice hot bubble bath is a great way to end your day.
Good luck! And stay close.

Hey VIV!!!

Great to see you... WELCOME!!!!  You have made it to the right place, the support forums, and we're all here to help you along on your journey to freedom!  If you have questions, just ask!  You have a bunch of new quit buddies here and we'll share our experiences with you and offer genuine heart-felt support!  Just post whenever you have questions or use the search button on the right hand side of the Forums main page.  There are a wealth of information on the threads here in the Forums, yours for the taking, just pick a topic and look for thread titles that you might be interested in and learn.

I smoked for over 37 years and found this site when I was looking up the side effects of Chantix.  The drug really helped to minimize the cravings and the support from everyone here was my ticket to success!  The only other thing you need is your sincere desire to quit more than you want to smoke!  If you have that thought right there in the front of your mind it's easier to tell the nico-demon to buzz off every time!

Resign yourself to the fact that you ARE going to live by N.O.P.E. ... Not One Puff Ever!  You are through with them for EVER!  You can NEVER smoke another cigarette!  Write those cancer sticks a Dear John letter and send the demon packing!  Then the page is turned... you'll never smoke again!!!  Then look for all the positives that are going to be yours for freeing yourself once and for all!

PMA.... Positive Mental Attitude... you CAN do this!  Use positive self talk and keep telling yourself that you ARE a non-smoker and that the thought of this makes you deliriously HAPPY!!!  Don't dwell on the negative aspects of quitting any longer because there are NONE!!!    Own your beautiful quit and do this for yourself!  Don't allow anyone, including your husband, to interfere with your quit!  Avoid the negative things, like arguments!  They make you feel bad and that's one of the triggers for craves!  If you run into a negative situation, about face and find a positive place to distract yourself... like here!  I spent months here reading and learning and posting and then helping my fellow quit buddies!  Being here was a great distraction and I learned how to beat this damned addiction!  One last thing... if your mind is in a happier more positive place, some of the negative side effects of the Chantix may not seem so bad.  Some of those dreams can be pretty amazing!

So, stick close and let's get 'er done, buddy!  We're all rooting for you!!!

             Jim

PS.....   Reward yourself for every milestone!  I've been rewarding myself DAILY since I quit!  It really helps!

I need help but am unsure how to use this site. So point me in the right direction if I am missing the point. I am using Champix on day 10 & feeling dreadful. Disturbed sleep, bad dreams falling out with my husband. Initially I was doing really well and feeling positive. Over recent days my mood has changed for the worse & things seem really difficult. BUT...... I am not for giving in. I know it gets better, eventually, as I stopped for six months about three years ago. But now wondering whether to miss tonight's tablet! My GP did say that I must stop taking if I felt depressed. But I have just spent 143 euros for a months supply and am only on day three. I really wanted to have every bit of support I could. So, I need to reassess my programme. But I am not for stopping, stopping. As I say I need help. I smoked 20 a day for fifty years. I am not going to solve this problem overnight.
