COngrats on your decision! I too was a runner, until I started smoking heavily. Last time I quit, I started running again and then stopped again when I picked up another cigarette. Gonna give it a couple weeks to regain some composure but hope to be pounding the pavement again in a couple weeks. Of course it will be cold outside now, guess it's back to the treadmill!! Good Luck!

As you have probably already seen by looking around in the forums, you will find a lot of good information, great support and some threads and stories that relate to you.
Congrats on your 1 month of quitting, and it is great to hear you have also been making other healthy choices in life to go along with the non smoking. Have you rewarded yourself at all yet?
Feel free to look into the program we have here as there are a lot of great tips and techniques to help you along. You are probably noticing your body responding to not smoking by now as you have gotten through the hardest stages of your quit.
Thanks again for checking in, feel free to post as often as you'd like.
Welcome Aally The weekends are usually quiet on the boards here for some reason. Just want to let you know that I think it's fantastic that you haven't smoked for a month. I maintain that the newcomer is the most important person here. There are thousands of posts to read through here covering all kinds of topics as they relate to stopping smoking. Most people here have used or use a reward system. The reward doesn't have to be large or expensive. It can be as simple as a favorite snack or as elaborite as a vacation on a cruise ship. Everyone's quit is unique to that individual so do what works for you and leave the rest behind. I found drinking ice cold water really worked for the craves. Like you I stopped cold turkey. Again welcome , excellent for you for not smoking. We are here to support each other in our common goal. Use the tools available here , read the posts and post if you need assistance with anything. Yay for you. breather
Hey all! Just posted in the 'who's quit' forum so this is kind of redundant but might as well embrace the site! Started smoking freshman year of college and have been smoking pretty consistently for the last 12 years. Occasionally would quit for a month or 2 (longest stretch was 5 months) over the last 12 years but have finally decided that I want to be done. Before I didn't want to be done or was too concerned about 'gaining weight' that I didn't even consider the holistic health concerns that smoking contributed in my life. (smelly clothes, smelly car, costs of packs, oral hygiene, etc.) Also I had been a consistent runner up until 6 years ago when I noticed that stopped (still went to the gym) and my smoking increased dramatically. Especially when I was out having drinks with friends. I quit on August 7, 2012 and have been free for 1 month.
Again, I do not preach or judge my friends that are still smoking as those that quit before me didn't judge me but have supported me. The method I followed was pretty much cold turkey although on August 5th and 6th I did try the e-cigarette before just throwing it away to quit completely on 8/7 as it was too heavy for my hand and I just didn't like it. I had thought it would be a good way to 'wean' off cigarettes but just decided to stop. I had my car detailed /cleaned so I would be in a nice clean car and have joined a running club. As of today I have logged 49.04 miles on the road jogging since my quit date and signed up for my first 1/2 marathon in November.
