January Quitters Kick off!

Wow! Nice spread.  What a lovely reward you have chosen Taanoir.  Thanks for sharing the pic! You will have many great memories around this table - all smoke free!  That's my prediction. You're doing great.  Just look at those stats - you'll even be able to afford a whole lot more things on that long list in no time - you'll see

LOL more than 127.00 ;) heck the table I replaced was a 400.00 farmhouse style table, it just didn't fair well in the move, the chairs we rickety (one collapsed with my boyfriend in it), there was really no way to fix them and the drop leaves didn't sit flush anymore, which made it look saggy. The new set is a 600.00 set, matches the rest of the furniture I already own (wood color, most of it is older than I am, and comes from different makers, set matching is impossible) seats 4 more people and will allow our big families to at least visit and join us for dinner. A little over the top, but replacing the table was on my long list of "I need to do this when I have the money", which has been growing for years. Eating dinner in a coleman chair eye level with my plate for a few weeks expedited the project.

Hi Taanoir, rewards don't have to be expensive, a reward can be a bubble bath, giving yourself time to sit and read a book, or just to meditate. I bumped up an old post about rewards, check it out, there are alot of suggestions there! Keep on going, glad you slept well!

Feeling much better, tried an herbal supplement (melatonin 1mg) slept like the dead. Can't do much in the way of rewards, my son broke his foot this week and will be having surgery Wed to install a plate. 500$ is a bitter bitter pill. I'm just rolling with the punches and things are really looking up.and doing better. Thank you for the encouragement, it does mean a great deal :)

Hey Taanoir!!!

Congrats on making it through another smoke-free day!!! Try to keep a Positive Mental Attitude throughout the process.  I know that is a tall order, but it really does help with the way you feel!  Like many, you may feel like you are in a fog, you know, that blah feeling!  Just know that it WILL pass and you will start to feel better!

Remember to reward yourself and be extra kind to yourself these first few days and weeks!  You don't really have to give up anything else now, like your coffee!  Maybe reward yourself with a cup when you feel you need it!  I cut down when I quit, but my morning coffee was and still is important to my mental well being!!!

You're doing great so far!!!  Keep your eyes on the prize...  FREEDOM!!!

Taanoir,

Good for you the end of hell week just around the corner.  Day 4 has nearly passed.  Sleep and a find a change of routines will help.  Do your mundane and happy things differently and at different times of the day (schedule changes=new person).  That would be you!

Day 4, and I feel like I've been hit by a bus. I'm not sleeping well, I'm so run down, muddy brained and tired. I'm trying to stay away from the caffeine (or at least not anymore than I was drinking, just not human without my a.m. coffee) because of the sleep issues. My body hurts, my head hurts, and nothing is helping. Still have not caved or slipped, I just keep reminding myself it will pass. The cravings are better today. My kids and my sweetie are staying supportive; my sweetie in particular is dancing a jig trying to give me space when he thinks I need it or hugging me when he thinks I need it.

Thank you Josie, I just keep reminding myself it will get better. Nel - congrats on all the changes you've made so far, right on!

Hey Y'all!!!

Hello and welcome to all of you January quitters and all the rest of my fellow quit buddies!!!  Stickin is absolutely correct; we have a great bunch of New Years quitters already here and hopefully many more of you will jump on the band wagon!!!  Read and learn from the Program and from the great advice shared here on the forums!  Reach out and grab someone's hand who is also quitting this month... the more the merrier!  Pledge to each other that you will do everything in your power to help each other along this path to freedom!!!  Remember, there IS strength in numbers!!!  Many here have found that reaching out and commiserating with your new quit buddies have resulted in success and life-long friendships!!!  I have personally developed several bonds with quitters spanning all of the nearly 4 years that I have been associated with  the SSC!!!  I thank each and every one of you here, both recent and veteran quitters, EVERY DAY for your support and friendship!!!  You may have saved my life and I love you all!!!

I highly encourage you to log in often, read the new posts, share your concerns and offer encouragement to your new quit buddies!!!  This communication is what makes the SCC so helpful to everyone trying to quit!!!  It IS great to log on and read and learn, but sharing what you learn is what really helps everyone here.  I seem to learn something new every time I come here!!!  Remember, sharing is caring!!!

I'm glad I re-read this whole thread today and I'm glad I had some time this morning to share with all of you!
Todash:  Huge congrats to you!!!  I'm wishing you a smooth delivery and happy, healthy baby boy!!!  Tell hubby to give it a go for his son!!!  It's OK... a little nudge won't hurt!!!
Eya:  Thanks for your kind welcome back!  Sorry I wasn't here for you in the beginning, but I'm here from now on!
Pat:  So glad that you are still here and along for the ride!!!  You've helped so many here, including me!
Jazz:  Great to see that you n' Mr. Jazz are still kicking ash!!!  Way to go!
Stickin:  Your words of wisdom have helped so many here!  Thanks for sharing!!!
Lainey:  Thanks for continuing to be a great quit buddy to me and everyone else!!!  Keep the support and bumps coming!!!
And to our new buddies: NBL, Taanoir, Sandii, David and Brianna...  YOU  CAN  DO  THIS!!!  Lean on us whenever you need to!!!  We're here for you, so yell when you need us!!!  Share your thoughts and hold out your hand to someone else that needs a quit buddy!  It doesn't need to be something profound or thought provoking...  many times all it takes is a simple post telling someone that you are here, you understand what they are going through and that you care!!!  Like I said, strength in numbers!! Last, but not least, thanks to you Ashley, the SSC and all the other Health Educators for being here and helping when and where you can!

OK, babbling's over... time to fire up a torch!  Have a great smoke-free day, everyone!!!   Kick ash!!!

                    Jim
