Hey Valetta!!

Welcome to you too!  You have found a wonderful site full of great supporters!  Go through the program and read as many posts as you can!  Reading and learning here is a great distraction and you will meet a lot of new quit buddies!

The big secret to quitting is that you just have to want to quit more than you wan to smoke!  You have already found that out and that is why you have 2 days already!!!  If you have a nasty craving, post here and wait for 5 replies.  By then your crave will be gone and you will have won another battle!!!

Breath deep and drink a lot of ice cold water!  It helps with the craves!

kir0395,

Congratulations on your accidental success! That is amazing and good for you for sticking with it!

Also, welcome to the family!  You will find this site to be a great support so post often!

You have received a ton of great advice! Let us know what strategies and techniques work for you.

As for your question: Every person and every quit is different so it is very difficult to answer your question.  Read the "Education" section of the program and focus on the "Benefits of Quitting"

Stay strong!

Hi Kir and welcome- you know I think for some people the way you have quit is the best way, totally unplanned- it doesn't work for everyone but it does for some.
You must be blown away that you have gone for so long without a smoke, and there are many ways to stave off those craves, iced water is a big one on here, as is chewing gum, and any sort of distraction you can think of.
As Rock says the physical dependancy is depleted after 3 days so its the psych association that we have to deal with- work on that Kir, and really good luck and good wishes to you.

Hey kir!
Welcome!
It's great that the situation you were in "nudged" you and facilitated your quit! Way to go! Something must really want you to quit :-)
Now I think the most important thing is to take control of the situation. The situation pushed you and helped you quit- and NOW it's YOU who will have to keep that willpower up to keep the quit going. Careful not to let another, different situation tempt you to start again!
But you seem well on your way! This site is great, and the online community provides amazing support!
Keep posting!

Hey Kir0395!!!

One of the site's greatest quitters never really intended to quit smoking, but he has one helluva great quit going on!!!  Way to go, Bear!!!

Anyways, this quitting thing is taking it one day at a time!  Look at you...  2 1/2 days into it already...  another couple of days, and guess what?   The physically addicting nicotine will be out of your system!!!  Then, all you really have to contend with is the mental battle against our common foe....  the nico-demon!!!  The question is...  are YOU strong enough to beat that nico-demon the resides in your brain???

Want help???  Go through all of the milestones in "MY PROGRAM", the button on the top left!!!  That will lay the ground work to become a successful quitter!!!  You will also find the answers there, and here in the forum threads to the questions you asked below!!  Preparation is always a key part of defeating 'ol nic!!!

Next, NOPE!!  Our mantra....  Not  One  Puff  Ever!!!   That's how we do it here... Another thing is to distract yourself...  try to avoid your "triggers" as much as possible!!  I used this site as a distraction...  it kept my fingers and mind busy and by being here, I began to learn more and more about this addiction and ways to cope with cravings.  There is a wealth of information in these forums...  and knowledge is power!  The more "power" you have, the easier it will be to win those battles against the nico-demon!!!   Oh, and by being here, you get to meet some of the best quit buddies you will ever have!!!

So, read and learn!!  Ban smoking from the house, clean and hide the ashtrays and either crush that fresh pack you have or give it away to someone!!!  You really don't need them anymore, do you?   If you want to quit smoking more than you want to smoke, you WILL!!!  It's just that easy and the only way it can be done!!!

We'll be here for you when you need us!!!

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

14 years ago 0 1843 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Kir, if I do the math right, you've not smoked for almost three days.  From a physical perspective, nicotine is out of your body after 3 days of not smoking.  From the mental perspective, its the nicodemon now trying to pull you back.  All the good feelings that nicotine sent to you brain are gone.  Your brain needs to retrain itself that it can be happy without the lethal chemicals in the nicotine.  So here is what I suggest you do to keep this quit going.  First, throw away that pack of cigs, your lighters, your ashtrays, etc.  Go through "my program" so you have a plan in place to keep this fight going!  Drink lots of iced water to flush all the toxins out of your system.  Iced water also helps with cravings!  Eat carrot sticks, celery, chew on straw, etc. if you need to keep your hands busy.  Change your scenery if you get stressed.  Clean your car to get rid of the smoke smell.  Read posts here as alot of members have experienced similar issues with cravings.  Tell your husband not to buy you any cigarettes!  I also went cold turky, and trust me, it does get better.  This temporary inconvenience of cravings and withdrawals will yield a wonderful permanent improvement!  Post as often as you need, if only to vent!  Somebody is always here to help!
