Welcome Lori
You have already received wonderful advice!
I just want to recommend also to take hot showers; and rest as much as you can. For some reason popsicles made my
cravings go away ; also I had always something in my hands; my icewater bottlein one and something else in the other.
The Allen Carr Book is great too. Read it if you can.
Rock and others also recommend to change your routine so the smoking triggers don't hit you hard; specially on the first days ofthe quit!
So hang on. You have made the best decision of your life!
Marivi

Hey Lori!

Put your birth date year a year later...  that will make your age correct!  I had to do that last year and and I changed it back later and it works fine!

Darlin, the pillow is for screaming.

lol!   I laughed pretty hard at that one. Maybe that falls under distraction.

Be good to yourself... take the walk, eat the cheeseburger, make it a double.  Do whatever it takes to protect your quit!
You are doing great. We all were exactly in your spot.  Count to five, ten or twenty. Just keep up the good work!

best,

Just realized that the form says I am 24 but i'm only 23. Why does it say that I am 24?  my b-day isn't till Oct. when I turn 24? .  And yes I did check out what date is in my profile.  It is correct.

Henny Penny, I think the pillow sounds like a really good idea I would love to screw at this moment.  Customers getting mad at things I have no control over don't help much either.  I do think I will go to the dry sauna at my gym (at least for now) and sit in the nice 180 degree heat once I get off of work.  I know I should go and walk, but I don't think I can muster enough energy to do that today.  Plus a nice big bacon cheeseburger with some jalapeno popper sounds a lot better at the moment.  I know not at all healthy, but I only get a few times a month to eat like that.
Jim, Thanks for the idea, I will have to get me a goodie basket set up for the drive.  I just hope that I am not the only one driving...

Hi Lori,
Welcome to the SSC!  Just had to stick my nose in to say hi and give you an earful...

You remind me of me. I just up and quit one day.  I was headed for my first day of jury duty and slapped a patch on my arm to get through the day in a nonsmoking building. Thought to myself, hey... how long can I go without a cig? Well, one year so far today! You can do it too! I found this site about three weeks later and it saved my quit. Everyone here has been super.

You have gotten some great advice from others.
Here are some little tricks...
Ice Water!
Distraction yourself. TV, video games, movies. Go someplace where you can't smoke.
Change your routine, drive a different route, sit in a different chair at home.
Things to fiddle with.. some people like straws or coffee stirrers. Dum Dum lollopops are good too - they last about as long as cig.
A pillow to scream into :)
Stay here on this site as much as possible! When a crave hits, come over here and post!!!
I was glued here in the beginning.
Many here have read the Allen Carr book to quit.  Great tool for a positive attitude.
Think of all the good things you are feeling... you are FREE!!

Don't worry right now about the upcoming drive.  I did and it freaked me out!  When the drive came along it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be.  Jim made good points.  I keep flosser picks, licorice and lollipops in the car. You will have the worst two weeks done with by the time you drive.

Most of all.. hang in there! Or like Tresa says.. "Hang Tough"!
Just hang on tight and it WILL get better!

Best,
HP
