I planned mine so that I would quit when I finished the last pack in my last carton. It ended up being a Sunday which worked out fine for me. The last day I made 5 cigarettes last all day smoking the last one before I went to bed on Sunday night. When I got up on Monday morning I wanted one but had none in the house so I couldn't tempt myself.

I had been taking Chantix too so that helped with the urge. It is funny how that medication made the cigarettes taste bad. Pick a day and stick to it. Good luck.

Hi Ron,

I picked the day after my birthday to quit....I had set this date around five / six months ago so I had plenty of time to get my head round things!! I was also on a weeks break from work which was the best move for me....I work in the service industry and I was sooooooo vile on the first 3-4 days I think I probably would have lost my job!?!, by the time I went back the worst of my moods were over!!
Good luck with deciding your quit date and let us know how your doin, this place is FANTASTIC and the advice on here priceless, read and post and work thru your program and  know that you have lots of support here from people who know exactly what yr going thru x x

Hi Ron!

Like Bj ,Jim and  Kelly and I think quite a few other quitters I also took Champix I didn't pick a day on the 2nd of January after being out visiting and sitting among smokers all night I found I couldn't light a cigarette  the Champix had been putting me off the cigs for a couple weeks I was down to 2 or 3 a day so that night I felt it was time to stop and thankfully I have never lit one since.  I hope you will succeed what ever day you pick good luck

Hi Ron!

I just picked a week after I started on Chantix, which happened to be on a Wednesday!  Luckily, my workload was slow that week and I was able to spend a LOT of time here!  I read and read and posted and posed to distract myself!  If you think it would help to be able to be here alot during your first couple of days, pick a day that you find most people on here!  If not, pick a day that you are really going to be busy doing something else!!!  Distraction is the key the first couple of days, as well as being able to post if you think that is important!!!  Hope that helps!!!

I quit on a Sunday.. at noon... I was on Chantix, my "set" quit date was for Monday.  Cigaretes were tasting really bad. I had 3 puffs on Sunday, I would light it... take one puff... put it out... did that 2 more times.. and said   UGHHH  .. this is it. So maybe some of my quitting is aversion.... remembering how awful they were the last 2 days....

Sundays we do grocery shopping, errands..so it was a good day for me. some pick a "significant" date...so whatever works for you

Just remember the day you pick  Will be the "BEST day... your day of freedom and smelling good.. and soon you will have your nose .. and your taste buds back...  and my vision has improved...I still have to wear my glasses, but I Really DO see better. (and no more teary eyes from smoke in them..)

just rember to have your tools and rewards your mantras.. everything ready... We are here for you

Hi Ron.  My hubby and I picked a Thursday to quit.  I know, an odd day, but we figured we could get the first 2 days under our belt, deal with the weekend off (and each other!!), then back at it. That gave us 4 days (almost hell week done) by the time we went back on the Monday. I don't know if was the "right" choice, but it worked for us.  Good luck - let us know what you decide!

Hi Ron! yes picking the quit day is a toughie! I picked a Saturday because I work Saturdays and I am always busy and so figured I wouldn't dwell on the quit too much. I just felt that if I was at home I wouldn't have as many distractions and could choose to break the quit at any time whereas at work that opportunity would be unlikely to happen.
I was dreading Sunday- but as I do my weekly food shop on a Sunday and then go visit with my mother I pretty much tried to fill the day up.
Good Luck with your choice Ron, you know 'you' better than anyone and you'll know which probably is the safest day to choose.
