Need2quit, Mood swings are normal in the early stages of quitting. You may find it helpful to increase your level of daily physical activity and reach for a reward or pleasurable activity when your mood needs a lift. Danielle _____________________ The SSC Support Team

Hi need2quit - Congrats on your decision to quit..quitting can be abit of a rollercoaster ride. I quit on my own...around 6 months or so ago...My hubby quit for last week but it smoking again today. My hubby did the same as yours...smoked outside..although I would come home to find cigarettes and the ashtray beside my computer (so it wasn't always outside when I was away) This quit is for us ... I was such a stubborn smoker that I have absolutely no expectations of any of the other smokers in my life. Sometimes it is really hard to be with them when we are having the urge to smoke but, the fact is, they will only quit when they're ready. Congrats to you...keep up the good work.. It's an emotional time & who can understand better than an ex-smoker? It's nice to have people to lean on, even if you don't know them or never met them. Keep posting on how you are doing. We are your cheering section :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/2/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 26 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 671 Amount Saved: $210.86 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 20 Mins: 15 Seconds: 46

Thanks everyone. You know, it's crazy but my emotions have been in turmoil for the past few days, and reading your posts and replies have almost moved me to tears..Perhaps it's the stress of quitting, but I am so grateful! need2quit Hello and welcome to the site. My husband also still smokes but has been very supportive of my quit (we never smoked in our house so that has not been an issue). One piece of advice I can give you is don't hound him about quitting- we all need to quit when we are ready. I would have been VERY annoyed at him had he quit and constantly told me I should do the same. I do, however, share information with him from this site, and when he is ready to quit I will support him. Good luck to you! need2quit, CONGRATULATIONS to you on your quit. Your husband is having the same conversation with himself, as I did with myself. It isn't his time yet but it's coming :) Be patient with him & let him figure it out on his own. He knows he has to do it & in time, he will. Concentrate on yourself & don't fall prey to his addiction. I know a house can get really stinky, really fast so lay down the law. No smoking in the house!!! Do you have kids? Or pets? Pets, like children shouldn't have to put up with second hand smoke. If he gives you the "it's my choice" argument, give it right back to him. It is your choice to not smoke & not live in a smelly, smoky house. Good luck & stay strong. Hey Need2quit, As Danielle said, there are a lot of people who have smokers in their homes. I will start a thread to get people's strategies for coping. Be on the look out for it. I will start it in the Coping sections. I am grateful that my hubby is a nonsmoker. Sorry I can not offer any help there. But I can certain be a shoulder to cry on or an ear to listen. We are all here to help you succeed. I also agree with Danielle, your hubby has to quit for himself. You just keep setting that great example that it can be done. Give me a shout if you need me. Need2quit, Don't despair. Many have faced the same challenge and have kept a successful quit. You both have to try to find some middle ground. Some members have found it helpful for their significant other to smoke outside all the time, smoke in the garage or basement only if you have one, smoke outside for at least the first month or smoke in one room of the house. If your husband decides to quit, it has to be for himself as only he has what it takes to make his quit go the distance. Our members will be along shortly to share their experiences. You can also use our search engine to pull up threads on this subject. Keep close, keep strong! Danielle ____________________ The SSC Support Team

I think the hardest factor i'm trying to cope with is actually my husband. So far he has put off quitting every month since January. It's always "I'm going to wait because....." and there are a number of excuses. I am serious about quitting, but it's hard when he smokes. I refuse to back down, but when he lights up I want to also! So far, he only goes outside to smoke if I'm home, otherwise I can come home and smell it through the house! He has kept them out of the bedroom (thankfully) but I can't stay locked up all the time :) He's supportive in my effort I guess, but only if it's not an inconvienence to him. How on earth do I handle living with a smoker and still keep my resolve to quit?
