Hell Liz... I am taking Chantix. It really helps with the cravings... but I still have thoughts of smoking. I don't know if it helps with the thoughts or not because I have never really tried to quit until now. I have found that when I start having thoughts that if I change things up it helps. My break times at work were the worst. I would think about it for 2 hours before my break and 2 hours after, so all day long. So, I found that I needed a new routine, something to "reprogram" my brain. It has really helped me. If you think that Chantix may help you talk to your doctor. Only you have an idea of what may help you. hi liz, yes it does get easier. i still have my days but dealing with them is way easier. i think for me quitting cold turkey was the best choice for me but others find it hard which is fine. but i feel starting a NRT now will do no good as you have no nicotine in your system . it is the mental withdrawls your fighting with now. sometimes they can be harder then the physical withdrawls. keep up the great work and know it does get better. Hi Liz - Trust YOUR own intuition regarding what YOU need, dear one. I did this cold turkey, no slips, but I spent a great deal of time on this site reading -reading and reading more, which gave me amazing info to keep me quit and to help me build coping skills! YOU decide what you need. This journey is a trip through hell - just know that up front - even for quitters who have had easier quits in the long run, most of us had hard times in the process (for me it was the beginning). Yes it gets better, but stay focused on the NOW... Get yourself grounded and ask yourself what YOU need. Talk to your doc if you feel you need his/her help. It may just be that you need to hold on tight and allow the process... Blessings- and show that meter! Liz, First off congrats on 9 days and welcome! Why do you want to start taking Chantix? Are you struggling? Have you worked through the online quit program? Danielle _____________________ The SSC Support Team

Hi! I'm on chantix also. 18 day's smoke free today. I find that the chantix is great for the physical cravings but the mental cravings are still up to us to deal with. Routines are hard to break. In my case 30 yrs of smoking is a heck of a lot of routines that i have to deal with. If your past the physical cravings than i doubt chantix will help you overcome the mental cravings. jan My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 18 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 369 Amount Saved: $90 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 3 Mins: 33 Seconds: 25

I used the gum, my husband went cold turkey nekkid, he's over it more than I am now. I still have cravings, not bad, just some longings, so does he but not as bad and not as often. Yet, I'm glad I used NRT even if it takes longer because it at least worked. I just could not have gone "bare", I wouldn't have made it an hour.

Hi Lainey. Thanks for the advice. I'm not sure what is the best way to guit. I think each of us need to find what works best for us. What really matters is that we QUIT and STICK to it! Congrats for quitting for as long as you have. Can't wait until I have reached a month. Taking like this really helps. Thanks!
