Well...this hurts! The fog has already set in and I cannot concentrate on anything except how bad I want a smoke. Been chewing the hell out of stir sticks! I have to beat this thing! I am going cold turkey. I guess it's a pride thing! I watched my grandfather smoke 2.5 packs of Lucky Strikes a day for at least 18 years of my life. He told me one time that he had smoked for 50 years and he just threw them down one day and said "enough is enough". I always admired him for that. So, that is how I am trying to do it. And I will! I know I am not him and that I never will be...but this is the way I choose to do it. I just have to keep in mind that if he can do it, so can I. I have one thing that he didn't....faith! Faith that my heavenly father can do anything and he WILL help me get through this! Sorry if I got all corny on ya, just typing my thoughts! Supernova You can beat this thing. Be strong no matter what! Are you using anything to help you or are you cold turkey? This site can help, keep posting and keep busy. It takes 3 days for the nicotine to leave your body and then its only the pyschological part that we have to deal with. I know at times it will be very difficult but if you hang in there I know you can do it and you won't regret it! Drink lots and lots of water, have the stir sticks ready or the candy or whatever you want to use and keep this site in mind. There are a lot of great people here to help you, who want to help you. WE HAVE FAITH IN YOU, KEEP STRONG :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 14 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 359 Amount Saved: $70 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 12 Mins: 38 Seconds: 5

Supernova, You can get corny all you want. My husbands dad did the same thing, at 76 he said that was enough after about 40 yrs of smoking! He died when he was 88 years old. BUT NOT FROM SMOKING. More power to those who can go cold turkey, wish I could have, but I was not strong enough. I admire your determination. I know you will make it, especially with the power of God behind you. BE STRONG, BE QUIT P.S. I like to think of myself as a NON-SMOKER, it doesn't seem so negative that way. I am also on the IM if you want to talk there. Supernova, you are NOT being corny. I just read your post on the Prayer thread and you really lifted me up. If that's corny, then I love, love, love corn!!! So, please keep serving. LOL I know, this is hard. It really is. Go back to the prayer thread and you'll see where I've asked for prayer. I've hit a rough patch in my Quit. For you though, are you drinking lots and lots of water? I mean lots of water to flush the poisons out of your system and ease those cravings. I don't know why water works so well but it does. Do you have hard candy, gum, sunflower seeds, and other things to chew on so you won't get bored with only the stir straws? Get yourself a lot of things to chew on so you won't be bored. Get up and move around when a craving hits i.e. clean something, go brush your teeth, do 50 jumping jacks or some kind of activity that'll take your mind off of the crave. Inhale deep and slow through the nose then purse your lips and exhale slowly....this will help you to relax some. Keep reminding yourself with every single craving or withdrawal symptom that your body is in the process of healing. That thought really encouraged me through those first days. Keep posting and reading posts as much as you can. We're here for you. Ask questions, vent, tell us how you're progressing, etc. Just keep youself busy and talk to us. Okay? Remember, your body really is healing right now and you're going to feel really tired so, rest and sleep as much as you can. Hang In There and Stay Strong, Tutti My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/18/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 25 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,146 Amount Saved: $89.75 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 16 Mins: 43 Seconds: 15

Hey Supernova, Let's get you through the first week. One craving at a time right now, and DON'T look beyond that! No what if's, no imagining what tomorrow might be like. Tomorrow will take care of itself. Coping tools, distractions, and sleep. Lots of sleep because you're going to feel drowsy and maybe a bit spaced out. No worries. It passes. In that first week, the tv changer was my best friend during "down" time. I'm still pretty fond of it even now. Sip on COLD water, I really like that as a coping tool. Post often, it really helps. Keep strong and keep the quit.
