I am new!

I quit smoking Monday morning (sept 18). I am in my fifties and smoked for 38 years, the last few years I have tried and quit many times, only to give in and start again. This time I am quite fed up with the "drag" that the smoking has become (dry throat, nasty headaches, totally stuffed sinuses, coughing, and dragging my tired butt out of bed each day) Last night was tough, the patch (my drug of choice) wasn't sticking very well, and I got very irritable. I was close to heading for the store, but put a new patch on instead and boy was I glad this morning. I know I can do this, have done it before and even though I know I will go through bouts of depression and anger,I have quit enough times and long enough to feel how good it feels to be free of them. Many times I have said this is it! But I think I have garnered enough information and tools to get me through this time. Wish me luck! I have been reading the postings and whoever came up with this idea is a genius, it really helps to talk to someone else going through the same thing! Thank you for this website! :)

Day 3 and still going. This site has already been a help to me> Just knowing that there are so many other people going through the same problems every day is such help all on its own. Finding supper time to be a bit stressful, so tried the straw thing and deep breaths, yes they work! Am feeling pretty confident that with help like this I have no choice but to succeed! Thank you, all you wonderful supportful people! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/18/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 86 Amount Saved: $34.5 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 9 Mins: 44 Seconds: 8

Thanks for all the well wishes. So far feel great! (Am kind of ticked at my self for putting off quitting all summer and feeling crummy all summer) The first three days have usually been the worst on other tries and am almost there! I alos know that as soon as I step down to a lower level of patch, I always hit a tough spot. Have heard that cammomile tea really helps so have stocked up! I am from Canada, and find it much easier to quit when the weather cools, as the patches don't like to stick in the heat. (at least on me!) Thanks again, love the wealth of info and support on this site! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/18/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 2 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 69 Amount Saved: $23 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 7 Mins: 48 Seconds: 18

Hi Lainey! Welcome to SCC! So great to have you aboard. You will meet so many supportive people with so much to offer. I live in Canada too....Won't it be great when we don't have to out in that freezing cold weather to feed our addiction! Post often and let us know how you are doing. Wow Lainey, you seem really ready for this, and eager too, I might add. Good for you. This is a great place to be. There's a lot of help and support when you really need it. I'm Canadian as well, and like you, I'm using the patch. I found during my quit attempts over the summer that they didn't stick as well as do now, with the weather having cooled down. So glad you joined, and good luck to you, Lainey. Lainey Hi welcome, I smoked for 30 years also, I also quit with the aid of the patch. Work the tools on the left, read all you can on the site as knowledge is freedom. Drink a lot of water, and post often as this will keep your hands occupied and also help a lot mentally as the people on this site are wonderful. You can do this one day at a time :)Marie My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 99 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,496 Amount Saved: $396 Life Gained: Days: 13 Hrs: 3 Mins: 46 Seconds: 49

Hello Lainey!!! Welcome!!! Glad to have you with us. I smoked for 34 years and had worked my way up to three packs a day! I am also using the patch. Post often and let us know how you are doing! BTW, if you are having trouble with the patch sticking, others have resorted to taping it on (in some rather interesting places :)) Best of luck!
