Lashes - It seems that we were writing each other at the same time! Thanks for the encouragement. Let's do this! (That's me trying to sound positive....I really feel pretty lousy;)) I'm also using the patch, it's taking the edge off. Wish I could fast forward the next few weeks! Thanks for all the support. I think one of the hard things I'm facing as well is that this will be a constant battle for a long time. I understand the withdrawl symtoms will subside (THANK GOD!) But I finally realize why I could never quit before cause I always had the mind frame that if I had been not smoker for 2 weeks, HEY, i was a non-smoker and a non-smoker can just have one measily cigarette socially. But that is not me. My body is highly receptive to the nasty chemicals, and I want to be rid and clean of that FOREVER. Day 3. Feeling extremely spaced out the past couple of days, cant really concerntrate, forgetful, but just trying to go with it. The worst is the anger I feel which really comes on intensely at times. I feel that I need to be alone a lot cause I really dont want to take this out on anyone else. I got myself some peeps as a treat. YUM! I'm with you. This sucks! The mind games can be the most difficult for me. They just never go away. I wish I could support you better, but maybe it'll help just knowing your not alone.

Struggling, Get up and go do something - take a warm bubble bath, read your favorite book again, write a letter to a person you love about why you are quitting this horrible habit. It's tough to get through the first couplr of days, trust me, it's still fresh in my mind!!!! I just kept on walking my dog, calling friends to check in and of course read stories from other here at ssm. Exercise seems to help too - at work I walk the stairs instead of "smoke break". I then go outside and walk and walk but try to stay away from smoke areas (downtown Chicago, everyone had to smoke outside). Know that you have people nearby who understand how you feel and are willing to listen to all the frustrating crappy things happening to your body while it heals. I am told my the "upperclassmen" it will get better and truthfully, I believe them. I want to be SMOKE FREE and never go back to being a smelly, stinky, unhealthy yellow nailed, hair reeking, teeth stained bad breath person again. Hang in there, be strong -- remember NOPE Not One Puff EVER! Coben Fan (ChristineM)

Struggling: One more thing I forgot to mention that really helps (and still is helping me) drink the 8-10 glasses of water a day, it really helps you from feeling worse! The first day I decided to slow down on the water (day 9) I didn't drink hardly any - I felt like complete garbage. It will help get the toxins out and everytime you want to smoke, grab a water and walk around with it. Hope this helps you. Hanging In, Not Givin In! CobenFan

Welcome Struggling, smilingspiders, The first few days are soooooo hard! There isn't anything easy about quitting. A wise Lady always says, "Your desire to not smoke MUST outweigh your desire to smoke." Without that, you are just fooling yourself. Now let me tell you, you don't have to go into day 1 with that. I sure didn't. But I took one minute, litterally, at a time, and here I am today. Within the first 3 days, I came to my scenses. And I truely believe in her quote. You can do it. Rusty wrote everything. The nicodemon will try to say anything to get you. :eg: It is all lies. Do not fall for it. Stay close by here, someone will always respond! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 31 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 944 Amount Saved: $101.37 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 12 Mins: 47 Seconds: 47

Dear Struggling, Hang in there! :) The weekends are still tough for me. Only becuz I have time on my hands, and I don't feel like doing anything! :( However, I've been able to beat 4 weekends. (One of them in Laughlin!) My secret: I sleep. When I feel the urge coming on I take a nap. If I can't sleep, then I just lay on the couch and veg out on a movie. Your junkie is plotting your slip............ :eg: Protect your quit! Hi Smiling, The anger for me was and is really a challenge to deal with. It has helped me to just 'ride it like a wave' when the emotions come up. Take it one moment at a time, and when emotions come up that are tough to deal with, just hold on to yourself tight, come here and post, and time will begin to move along... One step at a time has soooooooooo helped me each day:) And be very kind and gentle w/yourself, you are healing. Blessings- Healer :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 31 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,113 Amount Saved: $74.4 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 2 Mins: 58 Seconds: 45

Struggling, I used the patch too and it does take the edge off, but you will still have to be strong because you will still have some bad days. I smoke for 30 years sometimes a pack a day and some of those years more then that. You will be surprised how fast the time does go by. I cannot believe I am at 84 days. Some days are great and others are harder, but if you really want to quit you will be able to do this. Your mind is your best tool. You are in control of what you do or don't do. Find anything to keep you busy when you are craving. Spending time here reading and posting is a great distraction. It really is easier to not smoke then it is to smoke. Before you know it you will be at 30 days!
