TextThankyou all for your words of support. Have managed to not give in, altho quite HOW i DONT know....the hunger is even WORSE today, I am DESPERATELY miserable about the thought of getting fat, and I couldnt sleep last night at ALL so am tired and headachy today as well. NOT a good start. Have decided that if the hunger is still this unbearable this time tomorrow I will go and see my doctor....it cant be normal to be hungry while you're actually EATING....surely?! Have taken on board what people have said about the sugar levels, as well as about the boredom - part of me thinks it's psychological, but the rest of me KNOWS how hungry I am....it really is a LOT harder than i thought it would be. =( Am munching raisins at the moment, and about to buy a life-times supply of carrots etc from Tesco......even SO, am paranoid about the calorie content......i really hope this doesnt last for long - i HATE being hungry!!!!!!! Thankyou again for your thoughts - am off to check out that SparkPeople site now! Hugs, and good luck to all, Crystal x My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/2/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 2 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 34 Amount Saved: 4 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 3 Mins: 40 Seconds: 4

TextTextTextIt was my daughter's 2nd birthday yesterday, & i decided to give up smoking for her. The idea being that if I had it in writing that I did it for HER, I'm more likely to guilt myself into STICKING to it! So one day completed - has been 24 hours. Fortunately I'm more of a 'habit' than a 'dependant' smoker, so I've not done TOO badly for cravings (altho i HAVE been DECIDEDLY cranky!) HOWEVER......the hunger is driving me CRAZY. I'm NOT a 'small' person, & I have been working REALLY hard for the last 6 months to lose weight...I am 2 stone lighter now than I was, which is a hell of an acheivement. I am PETRIFIED of putting on a revolting amount of weight now I've quit smoking. I am SO hungry, and have been all day, regardless of whether its been 2 minutes or 2 HOURS since I last ate. Its driving me up the WALL - I have been in tears for the last hour because I gave in and made a veggie pasta earlier (I dont eat after 8pm usually) - only about an hour ago....and now i'm JUST as hungry as I was before I ate! I have drunk about 3 litres of water so far...I just dont know what else to do. I wasnt expecting anything LIKE this - I am absolutely DESPERATE. Its not a craving at ALL, and it WONT go away 'in 5 minutes' because it is an insatiable hunger and I'm SO upset - i dont know WHAT to do.... Has anyone ELSE experienced this? Will it go away? I feel SICK I am so hungry, but I am DETERMINED not to undo the good work I've done the last few months....so I am left hungry and utterly MISERABLE. This is hell. Please help. Crystal xx =( My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/2/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 1 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 26 Amount Saved: 1 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 2 Mins: 50 Seconds: 26

Have you heard of the sparkpeople website? Just google sparkpeople and you will get to their site.Above all please don't let smoking be an option for you. I too need to lose weight and have joined the sparkpeople group, give it a look and see what it has to offer.Have you worked the program on the left yet? If not please do it now and continue to read, read, read on this site. Good for you Crystal for not giving in.And kudos for all the good munchies you bought. Try to have some protein with those carbs,i.e. a small spoonful of peanut butter, a little hard cheese or string cheese or a few almonds or ? Great job so far, keep it up! Hi Crystal! You have made a wonderful decision to quit smoking! There is so much more you can offer your daughter! Think of her when you hold her - you no longer smell like an ashtray! :) That is one happy thought for me. I also am not an outsider, trying to hide my smoking from other parents as to not look like a horrible mother. It has held 1 of my girls back from playdates. I didnt want any of the moms at her school to know I smoked. I couldnt go on field trips. My biggest regret is that I couldnt help out in her class. That is a limited time only. She wont want me there soon. :( There is so much that I feel I wronged my kids by. But I wont go into any more than what I have already said. I just wanted to let you know that you have to quit for YOU. Your daughter can be your inspiration, but your reason to quit has to be for yourself. :| Dont worry about the weight. If you work just as hard trying to be healthy as you are from not smoking, you will be fine. Keep healthy snacks readily available. They are fine for all of your hunger bouts. Take your daughter for walks. Sign up for a yoga class or some other class. Find a sport that you like, and go for it. I am going to start swimming in June. I also joined a gym, actually as a reward, as it has classes for my girls & me to do together. I try to spend as much time as possible doing things that I was unable to do before. I have also found new hobbies. Hope this helps! Good luck and know that we are here for you every step of the way! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 29 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 898 Amount Saved: $94.83 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 9 Mins: 48 Seconds: 10

Hi Crystal, sorry to hear you are having such a hard time, you have already been given plenty of good advice. I would just like to add a bit about exercise as I also do not want to gain weight and therefore joined a gym bafore I quit. I realise that going to a gym may not be either what you wish or can do, but there are plenty of simple ways of introducing more activity into our lives. Here are a few ideas: If you use the bus get off 1 stop early and walk. Take the stairs instead of the elevator (at least part of the way) Walk to the school/shops Park away from the store entrance Get up to change the TV channel Wash/wax the car by hand instead of a car wash There are lots of other things we can do, my message is to do a bit more exercise to burn off those extra calories you are consuming. Hi, Crystal. Everyone's given you a lot of good advice. At the risk of redundancy I'm going to repeat it :). Right now the most important task is to quit smoking. It will take a while, how long varies with the individual. In the meantime, that's Job 1. If you put on weight, then you put on weight. It will come off later, once you're stable in your quit and can focus on other things. When I quit I gained about 20 lbs. I'm now just 6 lbs. over my pre-quit weight and plan on being at or below my pre-quit weight by my one year anny. To achieve this I've started exercising and watching my diet. But I'm solid in my quit so I can now focus on the other. Your time will come, too. Just don't worry about it yet. All things in their own time, Crystal. You're doing great. Keep up the good quit. :) Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 316 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,331 Amount Saved: $1200.8 Life Gained: Days: 59 Hrs: 0 Mins: 17 Seconds: 19

Try drinking orange juice, it will help keep the sugar levels up and isnt quite so many calories. You can do this, keep up the good work. I bought low sugar werthers candies and they helped my food craving, I knew I couldnt really be all that hungry so I would grab one of them and then try to find something to occupy my mind.
