Hi Stephanie, don't beat yourself up - you didn't buy a pack on the way home, well done it would have been so easy to do so:-) We may all have relapses but dealing with them is better than giving into them; you are dealing with it. Take you financial worries and just think for every smoke you have your finances will continue to suffer. For everyone you dont have things will be better. I am giving up purely for financial reasons, nothing else, sad I know but I actually enjoy smoking; the simple fact is that I cannot afford it anymore. So look at it from that perspective, it may help. Keep at girl you will get there, take the rough with the smooth. I am sooooo disapointed in myself. There goes my 6 days of smoke free. I'm going threw a very stressful time right now. I'm at the end of my Bachelor and having financial problems. Tonight, everything got overwelming and i went to visit a friend and i had 2 smokes. Oh my god...it's even hard for me to write this. I don't know any other way to handle my stress...other than smoking. When i left my friends place, i had in mind to stop to the store and buy a pack...but i did'nt. I KNOW I STILL NEED TO STOP. How am i going to get threw this. Sorry everybody... Congrats for everyone who keeps hangning in there. I'm proud of you. Stephanie

Steph, I echo what Bubba posted - don't tempt yourself. You are not superhuman, you are a recovering addict. I speak from "extra" experience, as I am also a recovering alcoholic (9 years dry) and I did not associate with any of my drinking friend, colleagues, family while in the early stages of recovery, nor did I STEP FOOT in a bar - even restaurants were difficult the first few months. But, 9 years later, I can go out and socialize wherever I want, with whomever I please and it does not bother me one bit......I am now the designated driver for most of my friends (lucky SOB's) The bottom line is........until you are stronger in your quit, just don't do it. Do not offer yourself the temptation, you have not gained the "habit" of saying NO to yourself and meaning it!! Good luck with everything, and give yourself a pat on the back for your accomplishments, the first of which is the desire to quit! I wish I had a nickel for every time I've messed up in my life. There's nothing we can do about the past except reflect on what we learned by living through it. Just ask yourself how you feel about smoking right now and whether or not you are going to choose smoking in the future. I hope you do not so you can realize all those positive benefits you wanted by choosing not to smoke anymore. We are all human. We all make mistakes. You did the right thing by not buying a pack. Listen to everybody's advise above and be good to yourself. It would be much worse if you kept smoking. Good luck. Stephanie So glad to hear you are doing better. My heart went out to you when I read your post. You had been given a lot of great advice so I abstained from putting my two cents in. I am sure you can do this. Why? Because instead of buying that pack, you came in here and called out for help. Thats how you keep the quit. Stay close and holler anytime you feel like it. vicki just 1 puff away from 2 packs a day My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/17/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 90 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,625 Amount Saved: $630 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 7 Mins: 48 Seconds: 24

Hey there, I'm N2k (f/41) You resisted buying some so please focus on that as a positive. You did great in that regard! U obviously want 2quit or U would have bought more. If U WANT to quit U CAN quit. So the question is 'how 2deal with your stress' right? One way sounds too simple. 'Breathing' but it must be practiced and I think it needs to be coupled with self-talk. Is a cigarette going to solve your financial problems? No. Is it going to help you relax or concentrate. No! If U tell yourself 'it will' U have not learned what nicotine does to the brain. All the death stick is going to do is feed your addiction, thus the 'withdrawal' will stop. Research and read all U can about nicotine so that U have the facts N your brain. :) U can do it but U must be prepared for the stressful times ahead of time. Plus~I was just saying on another thread that I think we need to get to know ourselves to determine what will work for us. U need 2look inside yourself for the answer you seek. So, please stop being disappointed in yourself and get busy tryN 2figure out 'why' because 'stress' is a part of life whether we smoke or not. U want to be free so make it happen! U can do it! Learn from this and all the best 2U Stephanie :) N2k My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/20/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 148 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,256 Amount Saved: $740 Life Gained: Days: 14 Hrs: 1 Mins: 9 Seconds: 54
