Expressing yourself creatively

11 years ago 0 223 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I write sometimes, I make music. Both can be equally sources of fulfilment or frustration.

Funnily enough, I would describe myself as barely, if at all, depressed at the moment, and I'm not writing at all and hardly making music. Not feeling the need, but I am listening to a lot of music, which is a creative activity itself in a way. I'm just discovering the music of West Africa and the Sahara. Some of it is beautiful.

Hi Ashley,

You are right. I am mostly focused in left brain activities and I believe that putting my right brain to work would make a great difference.

Eleveno, Yoga can certainly be a creative activity.  Since you are so used to focusing on the left brain activities, I wonder what effect bringing more creativity to your life would have? What do you think?

~m,  engaging in life is a creative activity, indeed!  What a beautiful way of putting it

I do some meditative drawing (Zentangle) most everyday... just 15 min. can calm for the whole day.  I have discovered some wonderful inspiring music to listen to while I draw.  Simply engaging in life is a creative activity ...

Hi Ashley,

I do not have any important activity where I express myself creatively (unless yoga could be considered a creative activity). Because I am an engineer by profession I allways look for the numbers which I think is an important influence for my all-or-nothing thoughts.

Depression can often be isolating and talking to a therapist or friend about how we feel can be difficult. For this reason, many have sought alternative ways to expressing themselves. Some have found solace in personal journals or distractions such as music or books. Others, have found peace by expressing themselves creatively by…

•    Sketching or Drawing
•    Watercolors or Painting
•    Composing a song
•    Participating in a play or theatre troupe
•    Drawing cartoons or animations on the computer
•    Writing poetry, short stories or scripts

Has expressing yourself creatively helped you? Please share your experience!
