Symptoms of Depression

12 years ago 0 619 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Anxiety, hopelessness, pessimism, worthlessness, irritability, loss of interest in activities, difficulty remembering details and making decisions, early–morning wakefulness and constipation.

To treat these conditions I take medicine, do therapy, practice yoga and now I am following the DC program.

Well, Ashley, you asked...

  • Sadness and anxiety
  • Feeling hopeless, flat, empty and insignificant
  • Guilt, self-blame, worthless feelings
  • Loss of pleasure, inability to settle to anything or concentrate
  • Tiredness
  • Suicidal thoughts, one near-attempt (just caught myself)
  • Headaches
  • Mood swings, recklessness on occasion, total inactivity at other times
  • Feeling that nothing really matters any more or will be right again
Apart from that, I'm doing alright
These are all things I can live with, though I'd rather not.

Here’s a list of some common symptoms of depression
• Persistent sad, anxious or "empty" feelings
• Feelings of hopelessness and/or pessimism
• Feelings of guilt, worthlessness and/or helplessness
• Irritability, restlessness
• Loss of interest in activities or hobbies once pleasurable, including sex
• Fatigue and decreased energy
• Difficulty concentrating, remembering details and making decisions
• Insomnia, early–morning wakefulness, or excessive sleeping
• Overeating, or appetite loss
• Thoughts of suicide, suicide attempts
• Persistent aches or pains, headaches, cramps or digestive problems that do not ease even with treatment

Not all people with depressive illnesses experience the same symptoms. The severity, frequency and duration of these symptoms will vary from person to person. Please tell us what symptoms you have experienced and how you’ve coped with them.
