Pete, have you and did you have any success with it?  Just curious if it is something I could/should consider.

   Pete,
Did you ever try hypnosis/ self-hypnosis yet?

yes it's laugh or cry sometimes....or a time for both....woody allen cracks me up and there's nothing like "blazing saddles" or "young frankenstein" to take your mind off things for awhile. the grass may be greener on the other side of the fence but it's just as hard to mow.

this may sound silly ... but humour helps.

I was reading the Cat Rules Everything (Including the Dog)  and it helped.
*the lighter side of life
**the grass is not alway greener over there.
*we are all on the same ark.

I read somewhere that humour stimulates differents parts of the brain (different associations and differents pathways in the brain) and new chemicals need to be released.... what ever works I guess.

wildcat,   How have you been doing since your last post?   As rose mentioned, everyone feels this way from time to time. How do you usually deal with these emotions? Does talking about them help? Or is an activity like exercise that you find useful?   We are here for you wildcat!

pete, you've passed along your genes, so there was a you and you have offspring and they will have offspring.....so you were here, you made a difference, you counted. oblivion scary? i don't get that. it's just lights out and what do you know? i read something interesting the other day that said that a corpse can still have brain waves for up to two weeks after death. i think something will become of us- but nobody knows what. nirvana? that would be nice, but i'd settle for nothingness.
wildcat, ride this out.....everybody feels like they are those things from time to time....doesn't make it true! you're smart, helpful, funny- hang in there!
the time i felt most terrified was when my 2 sons went on a trip alone together in a car! the anxiety was overwhelming, that's when i started the taking things to their worst case scenario, had to feel it and then shake it off fast!

hi bigwater.
I am bipolar (depressive with hypomania - I recently was cycling rapidly thanks to my antidepressant!)

I guess I have lived with such hard depressive periods that i had to deal with alone that I eventually overcame my fear of death.  OR I have always mistaken my mortal enemy for my best friend.

Is there some particular issue with death or dying that causes the most anxiety?
for me it was the dying a horrible lingering death that would carry over to the after-life and never end... a never ending suffering.  and when depressed that is a BIG problem!   I guess that physics and religion have helped me better understand and believe that energy/matter exists in a closed system and can not be destroyed.  so it is converted. the energy that is me becomes something else ... and  so on from there...

Hi Pete.
I have begun the nastiness of a bad episode ... and my danger is that I have none of that fear.  The emptiness, the void would be welcome when I am in this pain.

I hate to feel useless and stupid. I hate to feel like a thief and a criminal.  I hate to feel like a lazy free-loader.  I hate to be the idiot that everything happens to and that has to be scolded like a 3 yr old.  I hate to be jealous of the little things like titles. I hate to see myself at the bottom of the balance with all the verifications to do and none of the acclaim.

I hate it when I see the world as black and a friend reminds me to see the positive.  It is only the rain coming to wash.  It is the end of the world! And I no longer have the strenght to endure.

The nothingness would be so nice to peacefully fall into after enduring this violence and  ugliness infested exisistance.

I know death is natural, and totally out of my control, but dangit I don't want it to happen to me!!

Try as I might, I can't bring myself to believe in an afterlife, or reincarnation, or anything but a total absence. That's what's so frightening - the never was, never will, total nothing. Just not to be.

Still, look on the bright side. My fear has kept me from taking the step of suicide.
