Meditation has really helped me slow my racing thoughts down long enough to challenge them. It's less like herding kittens in zero G and more like getting a cat to come at the sound of a can opener now.

When I get really worried or bored to the point of heightened anxiety I'll chant a couple of my favourites for a while until I feel my shoulders slackening. In the car, alone, I'll sing the choral from the 9th Symphony and then recite the Hopkins sonnet "The Windhover" and all of these, either singly or in conjunction, have the power to shut down the anxiety engine... More than any of these is the will to leave any situation which is making me anxious and which I know i cannot alter or stop... I just split!

Hi I just started a Kundalini Yoga class. I have a Hatha Yoga dvd that I follow at home (on my at least reasonable days), and just happened across this class because it runs at the same time and facility as my daughter's Jazz class. Serendipity, because it's really good. It's specifically focussed on releasing and balancing the bodies energies -- similar idea as wildcat's reiki -- and it feels good to be doing something for myself. Re the herbals -- St John's Wort is a particular no-no if you're taking prescription anti-depressants.

Wildcat, Thanks for sharing. Sounds like a fantastic experience. Who's next? Danielle, Bilingual Health Educator

hi Danielle, My aunt is a reiki appentice and uses my family and I as her pratice patients. Her H-O-T hands are wonderful on my ankle (the one I shattered feb 2007), and the energy massage does me good for some of the anxiety. I was talking to my psy and she describes some of the mismanaged emotions as blocked energy ... so the reiki is working on me ... one way or another... ;p

Members, In addition to the support you’re receiving online, outside therapy and medication; many other alternative therapies exist to help alleviate the symptoms of anxiety. They include but are not limited to: • Yoga, Meditation, Reiki, Tai Chi, Ayurveda, Massage • Aromatherapy • Magnet Therapy, Light therapy, ESR • Herbal supplements, nutritional therapy and Chinese medicine • Educational materials At this time we would like to remind all our members that although taking herbal supplements, Chinese medicine or making changes in your diet has been beneficial to some, it is not always safe. For this reason, it is always highly recommended to consult with your doctor or pharmacist before pursuing any naturopathic regiment as it may conflict with other current health conditions and/or medications you are taking. We now invite our members to share their experiences with alternative therapies and/or ask questions. Danielle, Bilingual Health Educator
