Tomorow's my big day, i wish i wasn't so nervous

Welcome Bullseye, Been smoking...a long time....am 56...quit once for 10 yr, and started back in 1993(like a Fool). I'm a non-smoker now, though and you can be too!!! You are probably at... the best site on the inernet.. for support. Real "Ex-smokers" who have struggled with everything you are about to face can help guide you to a successful quit. Read the Posts, sign up and post often...comment and ask questions. It's never easy to give up a habit, it's even worse to admit you are an Addict. Once you see your smoking habit as an addiction and deal with it as such...you're on your way to being free from the addiction forever. We have a little nik-name for the smoking demon..."Nicodemon" :eg: He will eat at the core of your being, try to make you dishonest with yourself and tickle your taste buds with temptation of cravings that may eat at you for weeks or months. I feed my Nicodemon Bananas to shut him up...ha-ha I also suck on black licorice sticks I chew on straws when I'm on the phone (and used to when I was driving...I'm Ok now...don't need to). I drink a lot of water to ease my sore throat and help flush the toxins my lungs are getting rid of. here I go again...with a book...sorry...welcome to our site and good luck!! need to stop

beefree, welcome to the SSC I am a 56 yr-old grandma, smoked since I was 16. Quit cold-turkey once for ten years. This is the hardest way to quit, and it's probably worse now since cigarette makers have increased the amount of nicotine in the cigarettes. Like a fool I started back at age 42 (time of stress, bad marriage & menopause setting in). I'v tried to quit several times in the past 5-6 years using everything out there but Laser Therapy. Chantix is the first product I have ever used with such success as I am having now. please read as many of the post on this site as you can, there is a ton of feed back from chantix users: Dayone,Elise,Fox_Man,freedomforme,Izzy,Jnine,JosephL,Lily_Gazer, mrmagic, Rainie The internet will give you information about it. You'll need to get the script from your Dr. The product helps level out cravings and mood swings. Read, read, read.... and...one more thing...this site has more to offer in the way of support than you can get anywhere...afterall...we All are Ex-smokers who have gone through the same thing you are about to, and who better can understand your cravings, depression, anger, anxiety, withdrawal symptoms than us? Join us, use the tools on your left, show your stats when you post so we can pat you on the back, scold you if you need it, give you a shoulder to cry on or ...just vent if you need to. Good luck and welcome :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 22 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,129 Amount Saved: $104.5 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 2 Mins: 34 Seconds: 2

Taking the first step

Bernie... Read the post, and then read some more. There is so much information here...it will blow your mind and if our stories don't convince you that "You Can Do It", probably nothing will. We are...Ex-smokers...we know what you are about to face. If you want to know about any of the smoking aides to help you quit...I know as of today, that all of them are here at this site used by one person or several. or...if you want to go "Cold Turkey"...a ton of turkeys here to help you with ideas on handling it. I am a 56 yr-old Grandma..., quit once for 10 yrs "Cold-Turkey", and started back like a fool in 1993...those days are over now. but...the 2nd time around...I used something to help me quit. I lnow from my first cold-turkey quit...I could never do it again. On my 23 day as a non-smoker now...I'm soooo glad they invented some products to help us out.(I'm using Chantix Bernie, it's an rx you'll have to get from a Dr., but it works) God knows, most of us were only babies (teenagers) when we started and had no idea of what we were attaching ourselves to. Good luck Bernie and welcome to SSC auntdeb :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 22 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,133 Amount Saved: $104.5 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 2 Mins: 52 Seconds: 41

Hello, I am new and trying to quit Chewing Snuff

live4myboys2 Well I'll be dog, Good for you live4myboys2 You are a Jewel!! my hubby still smokes and at night I have to pull the cover over my head to keep from smelling the deep struggled foul breath that comes from the tortured empyhzema filled lungs he continues to contaminate, but now at a slower rate since I have become a non-smoker. He has respect for me and goes outside to smoke. I wish he had the same respect for himself! live4myboys2 ...you need a pat on the back for this so here goes....pat...pat... your children and Your live4myboys will love you much more and the example that you both set now...will go a long way in the future to keep them smoke or substance free. the only good thing about you being ex-users...is that you will know first hand the anxiety that goes along with quitting and hopefully you will be able to educate your children early on to stay away from addictions of any kind....peace and joy to both of you you have made a very wise decision auntdeb :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 22 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,133 Amount Saved: $104.5 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 2 Mins: 54 Seconds: 8

Nicodemons lies for all who aint read it !!

I've been here for over 3-weeks now, and if I could have had the time and put together the words of how I felt in 1982 when I quit the first time for ten years...wa la TEN YEARS IS A QUIT PEOPLE (NOT AN ATTEMPT) this whole letter expresses it EXACTLY I faced the truth of my addiction, and the fact I could blame no one but myself. And someone in one of the post said, none of the smoking aides will do any good if you don't want to quit. You are probably right. But how bout the ones who do want to quit...they just need a crutch that will take that nagging crave away...FOR A FEW DAYS I've been wanting to quit for a long time, and just couldn't get past that morning cig...unitl I tried one of the newer meds out there now. It is a God send for me, and I will stay quit. I KNOW ABOUT THAT MONKEY ON THE BACK I knew if I could get past the first 3 days...I would have it licked. Hi Everyone

:)Welcome Texas_Ivy10 Michelle, You are at one of the Best places to be for Support. This is the first time you've tried to Quit? We are all Ex-Smokers who have gone through what you are about to face. It's going to be hell kiddo! Smoking is an addiction worse than heroine,probably... (it's affordable and legal. You are getting prepared in the right ways and this will help you fight this thing, and don't forget we are here to help you. There is a post that I recommend you read by JACKO/1/23/07 (nicodemon lies). This post tells it like it is. Through the struggle of quitting...you will see yourself in this post during some point of your quit and experience the anxiety and anger that inevitibaly will surface. As you are struggling the first 3 days...remember that they are the worst. Take each day as it arrives as one day...down. One minute, two minutes...five minutes...this craving will pass. Try to sleep as much as possible, drink lots of water to help flush, and be good to yourself with rewards for each time to fight a crave sucessfully. Another important issue...slipping...it may happen...be honest with yourself and see it for what it is. Don't beat yourself up over it. Start again. Good luck and welcome aboard..auntdeb My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 23 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,183 Amount Saved: $109.25 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 6 Mins: 13 Seconds: 34

Crave Question

Rainie, Like you, I am using Chantix, and as you can see from my Quit meter (a little longer than you)I feel comfortable to speak about the cravings. I remember quitting cold-turkey, and the cravings stopped within 2 weeks...I was quit for ten years...so this wasn't an attempt. The psyche part of it was just as hard to deal with though. Within one month I can honestly say I felt wonderful...no more cravings..period. Now: I'm not thinking about grabbing my cigs and lighter as I make my way to my morning pee break on arising, but I do want something to eat. I find that I feel nervous at certain times and mental situations throughout the day. I use straws to chew on, and try to drink beverages. I keep mentally reminding myself that this is another smokeless day. And it's working. I am to remain on the Chantix until March 30 when I go back for the follow-up visit with the doctor. I hope I will be able to quit taking the Chantix by then. I'm not even going to try right now to give it up. I know too well what grieving feels like...and when you give up your cigarettes...Grieving is going to happen. I do not want to deal with the depression, and I've expressed my concern to the doctor about this. I just can't believe how easy it has been to lay them down this time. Getting to the point though...craves should be subsiding for you and you shouldn't have too worry so much about the physical craves... you are right on about the mental psyche of it. auntdeb My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 23 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,185 Amount Saved: $109.25 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 6 Mins: 21 Seconds: 17
