Lily_Gazer,
Congrats on your 17 days!
(me too chantix)..my dreams have not stopped, but for me...I'm glad.
I haven't slept like this since I was in my 20's. I could never sleep past 4:30am on any given day. I haven't dreamed in years, so this is a welcome side effect for me.
Just one other thing though on smoking dreams, when I quit the first time for 10-yr...I had nighmares up to 3 years after I quit. I sometimes would wake up with a sore throat...I had evidently been trying to smoke in my sleep Lol...go figure.
My doctor, who prescribed the chantix, doesn't know enough about the effects of it to give any information of how long the dreams will last.
If the dreams really bother you, maybe you could cut the pills in half and wean yourself off of them. Or ask your doctor if you can stop taking them.
Stay with your quit though...good luck...auntdeb

:) OK...here comes ms wendy to chime in.
Withdrawal includes more than just the physical side. When we take away the nicotine...we expose "all underlying emotional issues"
I have been thinking like you these past weeks, am I going to renew the rx for the next month?
With the additional information I found out about nicotine masking depression...and knowing the depression that came along when I quit in 1982,,,
I decided to get the rx, but I also ask the doctor when I go off of this med...in approximately 12 weeks...
"Will you be prepared to help me deal with the depression?" or "do you want to give me the name of a psychiatrist now?"
Yeagh, sometimes I am extremely BLUNT.
Because...my first quit...if I had known then...what I know now...I wouldn't be here on this site!! (I would not be doing a 2nd quit)
but...I'm sure glad this site is here and I know you are too!
Hang in there, we are all with you on this. auntdeb

Listen up please!
When I quit the 1st time..."If I could just take something to take this edge off, it wouldn't be so bad."
Chantix, my friends is the answer to the thought above!
I encourage all of you to take as directed so you don't fall into the panic and anxiety of withdrawal.
I also encourage you to explore your feelings as you are going to experience some craving...or are they actually triggers that when you smoke...mask the underlying emotion you are feeling at the time (like anger...that you would lite up and never realize you were feeling it, or deny it)
It's good to keep a journal or log...when you have these cravings and write your feelings out. Tell that person or situation off...loud and clear. Become assertive, you are in control now, not the cigarett.
We have all been taught..."To be Nice", but that doesn't mean we have to be used!

smeltergal,
My hubby smokes too...it's their choice. He is certainly being very supportive though, he tries very hard not to smoke in front of me.(he knows how much money we won't be spending...lol)
Tell us about you and some of your goals. Use the tools on the left and post your stats for us...and you too!
It's nice to see the minutes, hours, days add up...as we struggle to maintain our quits. It helps us build confidence too.
Read, read, read the current postings and the past. You will find a vast resource of information from "Real...Ex-smokers" who have dealt with everything you are about to experience.
And ...if by chance you don't find an answer to a question or need advice ...just ask...someone will respond.

Welcome smeltergal,
Are you brave enough to go cold-turkey...Lol, or are you like the majority of us using something?
You are at the right place at the right time to Quit once and for Good!!!!
Stay tuned here and learn, read, and interact with us toward your goals, and any issues you have a hard time dealing with.
We have all been in your shoes..."once"...the first 24-hrs
I'm a 56 yr-old grandma and have just quit for the 2nd and final time. I quit once for 10 yr, then started back like a fool. I'm using Chantix this time...(cold-turkey was too hard for me to try again)
I only wish this site had been around way back then....

Hi ballzy and welcome to the SSC
CONGRATS ON YOUR NEW MARRIAGE !!
CONGRATS TO "BOTH OF YOU" IN YOUR DECISION TO QUIT
****??? To answer your question about feeling better from quitting..
I smoked 30 + years...
I quit cold-turkey for 10 years (in the middle of those 30 + years)and no...I did not feel any better with the exception for the heaviness in my chest "went away"...but I put on 30 pounds. I was young then...I'm 56 now...I'm getting scared...
This will be my last quit and I hope it will be yours too....
don't be a fool as I was and restart...It took me 5-6 years to get up enough courage to try to quit again... I remember how difficult the cold-turkey quit was.
Thus, if you have a whole 7 days behind you... you are on your way don't blow it by lighting up or even taking one Puff...it will delay the withdrawal, and continue the craves. "Beware"
:eg:
Good luck to you and new hubby...
read, read, read, and post to let us know how you,re doing!

Good Going biberonka......."Lets Have A Picnik"!!
You are craving food, because you are probably deficient in a nutrient or vitamin...(remember smoking was depleting your B's and C's and playing hell with A)
Complex foods like Apples, Lemons, Nuts and "Greens" will take care of this craving for food.
Get a movie, and prepare a snack tray for you and the kids:
suggestion (or make up your own...make sure it's nutritious...junk food not allowed)
sliced apples
peanuts (or crunchy-peanut butter crackers)
Lemon aid
You may be pleasantly surprised how filling this is!
Aunt Deb
ps...try to get some dark green (spinach, broccoli &etc) into your dinner every night...even just a 1/4 to 1/2 cup will help satisfy the the craving...
