The dreaded night out at the pub

You are right - tonight I had my guard fully up and I was fine, but I won't be going out again for a while and intend to be very careful about this as I work through my quit. I was just so pleased because although I'm now 2 months quit, there are still some milestones I need to get over, and the pub was a big one for me. How I Became "Smoke Free" PART 4

Praise God!! What a moment that must have been - you told it so well I almost felt as if I was there with you!! Thanks for sharing this wonderful story with us - I am sure it will be a frequently read and re-read few threads!! ...oh, and a MASSIVE WELL DONE for all your efforts in your own quit!! Tail Between Legs

Stu - I feel gutted for you!! The main thing is you 'came clean' so that shows a measure of accountability which is admirable. My advice is, press on, keeping your eyes fixed on the price. This is something that constantly needs our efforts and attention - and yes, I agree, a decision that must be re-affirmed every day until such time as smoking just doesn't enter your head anymore. No, you shouldn't have given in to temptation, but what's done is done. Be honest with yourself why you did it, and then don't dwell on it - jump back on the wagon. The fact that you have told us all suggests to me you still want this quit, you just have to be much more careful in the future - plus it's a warning to us all, that even after a couple of months, or whatever time we have been quit, we simply cannot afford to become complacent. Stu - we are still 100% here for you - so stick around and keep the quit!! Just bought me a prezzie!!

I got an exercise bike as my reward for me off eBay and it cost only a little more than what I would have spent on baccy had I still smoked. Since I quit, I have pretty much hidden from the world when not going to college, just watching TV, working on computer - and the pounds started going on, and I noticed how unfit I was when I did take a walk outside, even though my lungs have been smoke free for some time now. So, no I can watch TV while burning cals, take a break from the PC on the bike - great investment I'd say - and I don't have to leave the house to do it either!! help me stop smoking

Wow, how scary for you - talk about a wake up call! Well you've come to the right place - if it hadn't been for this place I doubt I would have stuck to my quit but I'm so glad I did!! You need to make a commitment and stick to it. Set yourself a date (sooner rather than later), write out a coping strategy, whether you are going cold turkey or use NRT, and work out what you're gonna do when those craves kick in. Don't forget it only takes 72 hours for your body to become nicotine free, and it's amazing how quickly you'll see the benefits. Congratulations on making the best decision of your life - it is so do-able - the people here are testimony to that. Go for it!!
