difficult day affecting my outlook

Thank you for this thread... as always seems to happen here... someone writes about something I'm currently struggling with.  I NEED to be reminded about the setbacks being OK.  I was totally disgusted with myself this week because I freaked out about the wind again.  It was just in December that I had this big breakthrough about why I freak over high, sustained winds... as they were a precursor to disaster.  I've been handling the wind ok... meeting my fear head on.  And then bam... this week none of my new "tricks" worked... I just got totally wound up and freaked out about the wind.  I thought I was cured of this embarrassing craziness.   gawd this is exhausting.

Talking to Friends and Family

Thanks for the help Sunny... and for sharing this in the first place.  It really does help clarify a lot of confusion.  Printed out and on my bulletin board!

difficult day affecting my outlook

Thank you for the words of wisdom.... I know you are right.  But, just reading the positive things you said I should tell myself makes my stomach wobbly and my skin itchy.  That's not right.  I AM going to change that bad habit.  What possible purpose does it serve?  I would never treat someone else the way I treat myself and/or let people treat me.

I do have some good news though because today was particulary windy and fierce, and I stayed mellow all day... I didn't avoid by blaring the TV or sleeping all day...  I was aware of the wind and just shook my head and moved on.  Ta daaaaaa!  I knew what you guys were saying was right...that setbacks happen... and you move on.  But I just thought it happened for other ppl.  LOL.  It really happened for me today.  It feels good.  Really truly good.

Thank you, thank you all for believing for me when I could not.

Lost

Dear Sirius... I am so very sorry for your loss.  What a terrible tragedy.  "Feeling lost" conveys so much of your pain... yet you were able to find your way here to let us know what happened.  That seems a really healthy response.  I hope you will continue to come and use the support that is here for you.  You don't have to do this all alone.  There will be many people from your life coming together to share in grieving, as well as celebrating, your father's life.  When you feel up to it, perhaps you could share with us what made him so special to you.  Not all daughter's can say they adored their father.  He was blessed to have one that can.  Will be thinking of you in the weeks to come, whether you are able to post or not... in the meantime, I offer gentle cyber hugs (if that is ok).   Take care.

Very upset

Oh Debi, I'm so sorry for your loss... it is hard when a beloved companion animal gets so ill you have to make the life or death decision. Do you know that animals are less traumatized by death than humans are... they are more matter of fact about it.  I'm glad that we are allowed a way to spare them ongoing pain and suffering.  It is a selfless and generous thing to let them go.  The first month or so is awful... always listening for their tags jingling, looking for them when you get home, filling the water dish automatically...  15 years... that's a very long time.  Did you get her when she was a pup?
