Setback in Smoking Quits

Hi Red, I was researching on how quitting smoking can aggravate panic or anxiety attacks, and this is what I have found. I have read that stimulants (in this case nicotine) can aggravate anxiety and can make people more vulnerable to panic attacks. It is known that many people do not understand this until they start to eliminate or cut back on their smoking habits! According to researchers, panic attacks can actually go away when individuals eliminate any stimulants (caffeine as well as nicotine). Another good point that researchers have proven, €œSmokers tend to be more anxious than nonsmokers, even when there are other stimulants involved, such as coffee and over-the-counter drugs€. This was a great question Red! We learned a lot from you today! Be sure to keep on posting. Questions like this can make a big difference in a lot of people€™s lives ;). Thanks, Melanie Research: Edmund J. Bourne, PhD.

Hi Cody, It is very nice to hear from you. Have you been able to try our anxiety test yet? To tell you the truth anxiety and panic are a part of our everyday lives. Don't be afraid of going to see your Doctor. Everything that is mentioned to him is confidential. Highschool is a very stressful time, and if you get on top of this right away, I believe that you may feel a world of difference. I hope that you continue to post with us Cody :). Please keep in touch! Looking forward to your next post. Take Care, Melanie

Cody, Yes you can bring this anxiety test to your doctor. He may or may not refer you to a specialist. It really depends if you need one or not. Most family physicians refer you to specialists that they know and trust. So, again this is a win, win situation. Hope this helps. Keep in touch Have a good night, Melanie

Setback Today

Hi Sara, I can see that this must be pretty uncomfortable for you to discuss. I hope that everyone can help Sara by giving her examples of what you do when you feel...let's say....an "anxiety/panic attack"? Thanks Melanie

New fear

Hi Debra, Yes, this can be very scary. Let's figure this out! Like Red said call you Doctor and ask him what is going to happen? Ask him where you are going, what they will be doing, and what the outcome may be. Also, ask the doctor's receptionist or the doctor to set this appointment up for you! Remember they are there for you....that is their job. Make sure that you go to this clinic, cause sleep apena needs to be corrected. I had a family friend that had this fixed and his health is the best it has been in years. If you need anymore advice Debra please don't hesitate to ask. Hope this helped :) Melanie

Let's give a warm welcome to Lauren!!

Hi Lauren, Welcome! :). We are so happy that you have joined this support group! You will find that we are a group of people who are very open-minded! You only have to discuss what you want here..there is no pressure. Have you tried The Anxiety Test? This test is a survey that asks you a series of questions about panic symptoms and other problems that often go along with panic symptoms. You can click on "the anxiety test" under the heading of the "TOOLS" heading to your left, or you can simply log on to http://www.paniccenter.net/anxietytest/. Looking forward to getting to know you a little bit better Lauren. I hope that you will continue to post with us :). Take care, and have an awesome weekend! Melanie

Crazy Thoughts?

Hi Susan, Welcome to our support group. It seems like your panic attacks are really getting to you! This support group is available to you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You will find that we are a group of people that are here to help out in any which way we can. Have you tried out Anxitey Test Susan? You will find that the Anxiety Test is not a diagnostic tool and is not a replacement or substitute for a physician's advice. The purpose of the test is to prepare you with information that you can present to your physician. When you're finished the test, you can either print your final report or email it directly to your doctor. With regards to your medication we have a medication glossary that may give you the information you need. We look forward to hearing more from you and hope that you will post often. Take Care, Melanie

Medication

Hi Ron, The best possible way to find out what your friend is experiencing is to ask them. Depending on your friends approach towards his or her panic attacks, a friend or loved one can really help on creating a positive reaction to this type of life changing experience. Regarding the medications you will find that we have a medication glossary on the left of this screen. If you need more information you can always visit your local pharmacy, a medical clinic or your doctor's office. I hope all is well with your friend! Please feel free to keep on posting if you have any other questions or concerns. All the Best, Melanie
