Oh well, I'll try anything once! Yes, I'll join if I may. Have they invented self-heating shoes and gloves yet? I always get cold fingers and toes (even when not smoking :-)).....

Hi everyone

Hey kir!
Welcome!
It's great that the situation you were in "nudged" you and facilitated your quit! Way to go! Something must really want you to quit :-)
Now I think the most important thing is to take control of the situation. The situation pushed you and helped you quit- and NOW it's YOU who will have to keep that willpower up to keep the quit going. Careful not to let another, different situation tempt you to start again!
But you seem well on your way! This site is great, and the online community provides amazing support!
Keep posting!

catioroc is onthe CRUISE SHIP!!!!.......

Hello everybody,

thank you all so much!

Sorry I've been posting less lately- I'm traveling a lot for work and have very irregular access to the net. I miss posting- but all will get back into order soon.
I am soooo pround of myself at the moment: currently travelling in Austria, where you have ashtrays in the cafés, restaurants, hotel rooms etc etc. And boy am I sometimes tempted... On the other hand, the scenery is so amazingly "Sound of Music" around here that I tell myself that Maria van Trapp certainly didn't smoke either when walking through the mountains...

I had been planning to award myself with a good restaurant- but I know I have been going VERY overboard on the eating side since my quit. Will be posting in the "weight gain" section  soon... I'll tell you all what alternative I choose!

love,
Cat

Maybe stop keeping occupied?!

Hello everybody,

today was beautiful weather here and I was lucky enough to spend a half an hour between meetings sitting in a sweet smelling rose garden.
And in spite of the beauty of it all, I felt the crave to smoke (trigger: break). So I did as I have trained myself these last 50 days: I got out my water, started chewing a stick of gum and got out my book and started reading.

And then it hit me: we are trying to replace smoking; We are substituting it. We are being coached to do so. We are keeping ourselves occupied (maybe this is some sort of ingrained learning mechanism: doing nothing, being idle is "bad"- and isn't smoking a wonderful way of not being "idle":-)). We are cleaning, running, eating, burning incense, drinking ice water or doing ANYTHING to fill the gap left by the cigarettes.

But what if this is wrong in a way? What if what we have to learn is to LET GO? To not do anything? To enjoy the moment of calm? To relax into the present moment and savour it?

Now, I'm not trying to be a guru here... I just want to say that I spat out my gum this afternoon, put away the book and the water bottle and all the other space and time filling substitutes- and just concentrated on the NOW, on the smell of the flowers and the sun on my face.

Maybe that's a way for me.

Cat
