Helping spouce quit

Hi there! My husband has set Nov. 1st as his NEW quit day! He is the one who (thank goodness) got this ball rolling on our quitting. He was having trouble breathing. He had a chest x-ray that came back normal, but his Dr. said that he has the lung capacity of a one hundred year old man. His Dr. gave him Chantix and told him to come back 3 weeks after he quit. That was 7 weeks ago. I decided to quit with him, and am so glad I did. My question is, how can I best encourage and support him? He is very old school. He has never touched a computer and doesn't plan to. I have suggested that he make a list of reasons to quit, and plan some craving distractions, but he doesn't really want to prepare in these ways. He did ask that I buy some tooth pics though. I have been sharing with him some of the daily quotes and some statistics. I'm really worried about my husband and I want him to be successful in his quit. Helping spouce quit

Thanks you guys! Today is my husbands big day! I will try to be as supportive as I can in a subtle way. There are tooth picks, mints and Hot Tamalies candy on the counter. There are water bottles and cut up veggies in the fridge. I read to him an inspiring post from Danno that I thought he could relate to, and I will suggest an after dinner walk. I checked out Allen Carr's web sight. Very impressive. I will see if Barnes & Noble has the book. Thanks again for all of the suggestions. Jodi The Non-Smoker! OCTOBER QUITTERS UNITE!

Hi October Quitters! My name is Jodi. I am a 42 year old mother of three girls. We live in Oregon. I am a stay at home mom, and I do the books for my husbands construction company. I am very involved with my kids sports, music and activities. I do a lot of volunteer work. I enjoy traveling, skiing, swimming and spending time with my family and friends. I finally quit smoking on Monday, October 15th! I smoked about a pack a day for about 25 years. I have tried to quit before, but was unsuccessful. This time I'm on Chantix and I've quit for good! I read all of the "quitting is easier than..." posts this morning and cried. My step dad died from lung cancer last year and my mom has liver cirrhosis. I want to lead a healthy life and set a good example for my kids. My husbands quit day is today! I have been feeling great about my quit, although I'm still wanting to eat and sleep a lot. Oh well, it will pass and it's worth it. I just ordered another months supply of Chantix. I don't even want to think about weaning off that yet! This sight has been very helpful to me. The people are so nice and supportive. I come here often! Fellow October quitters - HANG TOUGH WITH ME! OCTOBER QUITTERS UNITE!

Hi Marie- You are not alone. None of my friends smoke either. They try to be supportive, but they really can't relate. My husband smokes outside too. He is pretty careful not to leave cigarettes laying around, but it is hard for me not to be a little resentful that he is smoking. He is on Chantix too, but is having trouble quitting completely. Today I went to the book store and bought him Allen Carr's book on CDs. He said he wants to quit and he'll listen to them. Congratulations on day 10 of being smoke free! That is so awesome that you are doing it cold turkey! You are a strong woman. OCTOBER QUITTERS UNITE!

Hi guys. I thought I was doing so good and being so positive, but this morning I feel like a witch. I was irritated and short with my family. I'm mad at everyone. I feel like smoking, but I wont. I wonder if it is withdrawals still or just me being *itchy. I want to cry. I want to tell them I'm sorry, but they are at school and work. Helping spouce quit

Aw, thanks Bear! Yesterday didn't go that great for my husband. He didn't touch any of the distractions I set out for him, and he had a couple of smokes. He said he crushed his last smoke and today is his new quit day. I bought the Allen Carr book on CD, he said he would like to listen to it. I told him I was glad that he was not giving up, but actually I can't help but feel a little resentful that he has not tried harder. Today has been hard for me. I am quite cranky and was short with my family this morning. OCTOBER QUITTERS UNITE!

Hey there October Quitters! I hope everyone is hanging tough! This weekend is not as busy as usual for me, so I am having to take a lot of deep breaths. OMT - Great Job on 5 days! Do you have a reward planned for one week? Hopefully Noel will go easy on you guys. A clever name for Oct. quitters is a great idea, but as you can see from my screen name I'm not very creative with names. Thanks for starting this thread Martha, and for all of the suggestions for dealing with anger, stress and tension. Have a nice smoke-free weekend everyone - oh, and enjoy that extra hour of sleep when we turn our clocks back! OCTOBER QUITTERS UNITE!

Isn't it great to be able to leave the house without having to make sure you have your smokes and lighter with you?! loolie - At least you and your husband will get through it at about the same time. You will not feel resentful, as I sometimes do, when he goes and smokes while you may be struggling not to. Congrats on one week OMT!!! Your dogs are cute. Are they Golden Retrievers? Hi cat - I'm going to try to catch up on cleaning and bills and things today too. It seems I have been putting things off for too long. Way to go on 3 smoke free days Stan!!! For me, days 1 and 3 were the hardest, then it got way easier! sprquits, marie, goofy, rnd34 - I hope you all are having a good smoke-free weekend! Keep your eye on the prize! Way to go sprquits! If you quit 13 years ago partly because he was against it, why not show him now how great you are at quitting without him! Also, it would sure suck to have to redo hell week, wouldn't it? Keep hanging tough! OCTOBER QUITTERS UNITE!

Hi Eddie! Congrats on 2 weeks of being smoke-free!!! OMT - I should have recognized the dog in the back. I have a yellow lab with darker ears like that, her name is Roxy. How's it going Stan? Have you thought of a cool name for us? How about The Octobreathers? IDK - kind of dumb. I'm doing pretty well. My jeans are stating to feel a bit snug. Oh well, I'll work on that later. Have a great day all! N.O.P.E.
