Scared, semi-confident

Hello, I'm Dana. I'm 27 and sadly, I've smoked for 13 years. I have toyed with the idea of quitting for a few years. I have tried at least four times to quit, to no avail. But this time will be different. I am elated that I found this amazing website and all of the many resources provided. My boyfriend quit three years ago and I know it has to be awful kissing an ashtray. We will marry someday and have kids, and this is my biggest motivator. I want my body to be healthy NOW. I used the excuse "when I get pregnant I'll quit" for way too long!!! I need my body healthy before I get pregnant. I have a quit date of October 15. I sure could use all the support I can get. Thanks to everyone and I really looking forward to lending and receiving support here!

Scared, semi-confident

I want to thank everyone for the outreach and support. I will just drown myself in this website. I do not plan to use any aids whatsoever in my efforts. I will gradually cut back until my quit date, then it will be cold turkey. If this proves to be too difficult then I will seek other alternatives to aid me in my road to success. Thank you again and good luck to everyone in their journey!! CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE WHO HAS AND REMAINS SUCCESSFUL FREE OF SMOKE! Take care

Well Crap

GET BACK UP AND KEEP TRYING! Don't look at your slip as failure, but just um, a milestone. I think one of the biggest problems we face when trying to quit is that we just assume, well, I slipped, so oh well, I'll try again some other time. Not true, get right back on your road to being smoke-free and DON'T GIVE UP or beat yourself up for that matter! Good luck and you can do this!

Today is my first day...

I am not new to this, so I ask the question, is it me or does it seem that on the very day you try to quit smoking, everyone, and I mean everyone around you is smoking? It is as if those people are the real life figures of all of the voices in your head that tell you to smoke. I was driving to work and I promise, cross my heart, the car in front of me, behind me, and beside me were all smokers!!! Please, I need some confirmation that I am not losing it and that at least one other person has experienced this. I'm okay, my worse craving was walking to work from the parking garage and smelling the smoke, other than that, cravings have been mild. But, I am used to this on the first day (I've tried this 4 other times), it is the second, third days that are real hard because the nicotine starts leaving the body, completely! Thanks for listening and affording me the opportunity to just vent! I feel great and much different this time, I KNOW that I will do this, nothing will stop me! HAVE A GREAT MONDAY!

update

Congrats! Just take things one day at a time, maybe one day you will not need a fibulator anymore.

Quitting Smoking is easy!

I copied and pasted the information into a word document. I then took the phrase "Quitting Smoking is Easy" and placed this before each of the "easier's". I then cut each one out into strips, I have placed a few around my desk area at work, and plan to place the rest in my home, car, boyfriend's car, etc. Just as a constant reminder! Thank you so very, very much!

i can do this?

Darn right you can, just like me! Today is my first day. It was okay, not terrible, not great. I have battled about 4 cravings thus far, but everyone is right, use the coping techniques and it passes. Good luck!

Today is my first day...

Thanks to everyone for the support. Today is day 2. Day 1, not a easy as I first thought it might be and the nicotine withdrawals are making me not such a nice person. Does anyone know how long the withdraw symptoms actually last? Roughly, as I'm sure it is different for everyone. I know that I will always battle the urge to smoke, but how long will this part last? Thanks again!

Today is my first day...

Interesting, I thought the first day would be a breeze, boy was I wrong, and it turns out that today, the second day, is easier, thus far! Thanks for everyone's support. I have had three people either ask for a cigarette or offer one, it was so easy to reject those invites!
