Hi, I'm Trudy and this is my first day at this site. I've smoked for over 30 years and want to quit-Today. I have two cigarettes left,I used to buy by the carton but I will not buy any today.I'm so scared right now but at the same time excited.I'm glad that I found this site and feel that this time I have a great chance of becoming a non-smoker.Back in the mid 1980's I quit smoking for almost 6 months,I could feel myself slowing being drawn back to cigarettes but didn't want to go there and was desperately trying not to get sucked back to that life. It was as if something evil had hold of me and I was getting weaker and weaker. I checked the Yellow Pages for help and called the American Cancer Society, the American Lung Assoc. and as many others that I could to get some support. I practically begged for a support group of sorts that could lend some encouragement only to be told that "we don't have anything like that-why don't you start a support group yourself". How can one save others when they themselves are drowning? Needless to say, here I am 20years later. I just smoked my last cigarette. I will not buy cigarettes today. Once again, I am very glad to have found this sight, I think I will need alot of support and willpower for awhile but expect that in the future I can help others as well. Sorry about the long whiny post. Did I mention that I just put out my last cigarette? I am now a non-smoker.I'm terrified and excited.

Thank you all for your warm welcome and wise words of encouragement. This is my second day off cigarettes, I used the nicotine gum yesterday but not today. I'm not coughing nearly as much as I used to and when I do cough it doesn't hurt as bad.I'm working the program here, I'm not very proficient at navigating around the site yet(may take awhile), but so far I'm loving it. Thanks again for your wonderful support. Trudy

Hello Everyone

Welcome Commit2me! I just joined this site yesterday and this my 2nd day off cigs. I'm sorry to hear about your mom and uncle. I still am kind of clumsy using the site...don't know how to use everything yet so I'll offer support and a pat on the back right now. Try to stay positive. Trudy

Sadness

Hi Alex. I'm glad you're having a better day. I can undersand that you were sad before--like a comfortable old "friend" was gone, but we don't want that smelly evil thing hanging around like a ball and chain sucking the life out of us, right? I took advise from some of the other posts I've been reading and---I smelled my hands! They smell great, have you tried it yet? Hang in there, you're doing great. I'm on day 3 of no smoking. Trudy

Going down that road again!!

Hi Aztec, Congrats on your choice to be smoke free. I too worry about weight gain. I used to be thin(and smoked) then I was fat(and smoked). Now I'm quit and hope to lose weight but this time I will not use food as a substitute. I think you have a great food and exercise plan. Deep breathing has helped me, enjoying fresh air in my lungs is both calming and relaxing. I also do yoga, walk on a treadmill and read. Happy painting! First Non-Smoking Day Over...PLEASE HELP!

Good for you Crystal for not giving in.And kudos for all the good munchies you bought. Try to have some protein with those carbs,i.e. a small spoonful of peanut butter, a little hard cheese or string cheese or a few almonds or ? Great job so far, keep it up!
