Back on the Bandwagon

Congrats on quitting. I am 3 days in and am trying to NOT lose my mind! This is the first time I have tried cold turkey in a long time. Good luck to you I hope to gain as much confidence in this group as you seem to have. I am excited to have found it. I hope you all don't get bored of welcoming newbies. I have been a smoker for the better part of 15 years. The most recent failure to quit left me smoking about 12/day. An improvement over the 1.5 pack/day of a few years ago, but for some reason this time seems just as hard or harder. My wife smokes too and also quit and restarted several times. Usually one of us sucks the other back in. I am trying cold turkey as I have had mixed results with the patch and the gum. I'd really like to just have it out of my system all together. I am thinking of trying Zyban. Anyway, I am so glad to have found this site and this group. Quote: "Hi doinit4mygirls, how about doinit4myself! " Brent, thanks. I guess ultimately I should say I am doing for myself, but I really want to see my daughter's grow up and become the wonderful people I know they will. It's the picture of my wife and daughters that will mostly get me through the hard times. Thanks to all for the positive comments, I am sure the support will help. Are you going cold turkey or are you using the gum or something? I am trying cold turkey and having rough time after 3 days. I was kinda hoping it would get better after week one. Your post makes me nervous. I may need a little help! My mind is strong but my willpower wanes constantly.

I wish they had been $1000/pack back when I started...because I couldn't have started. They will always be just cheap enough to keep the tobacco companies busy. I'm a newbie, but this is helping.

Alcoholics take it one day at a time...at this point I'm taking it a minute at a time. It sounds silly, but I bought a "teach yourself harmonica" set today. The activity for my hands and the concentration on breathing seems to be helping a bit.

Today is day 4 and it was a little better than yesterday. I wish I wasn't so busy as more sleep and less stress would make it easier still. If I can make it to the weekend my wife has promised to let me sleep in and take it easy...2 more days?! Thanks to you all for the support. It really does help to know that I'm not alone in my struggle. Stoppin, actually my wife is a smoker. We have enabled each other many times before but this time we just realized that we can't do it at the same time (for the sake of our marriage). Me first, then I'll have to support her. I've been telling her how much the support all here have given has helped. I'm sure she'll be on board as well. And yes, she is great. I consider myself blessed to have her in my life as well as two amazing daughters. I will tell her that you said it though, sometimes I don't think she believes me when I say it. Brent, no prob. I knew what you meant, I didn't mean to sound defensive. I just hadn't really thought about anything other than being around to see my kids grow up and have time to really enjoy being married to my wife. Getting off (and staying off) the smokes should add years back on to my life, hopefully they will be the golden years. Thanks again to all of you for the support! I am in to day 5 now and it really is getting easier each day past day 3. I even had a couple high stress business calls already today and got through them alive. I am really starting to think that I can do it this time!
