Excessive Gas

oh yeah... this is the fun part ! :) This is a usual side effect of quitting. Do you also notice mild constipation ?. The body goes through some pretty serious chemical adjustments 3 weeks following the quit. The body learns to manage it's own sugar, fat, & dopamine reserves all over again to that of prior to smoking..thats why we get the dizzy, exhausted & spaced out feelings. Smoking a cigarette triggers the body to release these reserves, by smoking we self medicated :8o: Eat plenty of Fruit (contains natural sugars) drink lots of water & most importantly enjoy these side effects as they don't last long, It's the body healing itself. ;p My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 406 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 10,165 Amount Saved: $2639 Life Gained: Days: 58 Hrs: 6 Mins: 13 Seconds: 49

weight gain

Same here, but found the solution. As you get older your metabolism slows down, smoking did speed up our metabolism to burn a few extra calories however it doesn't work that well cos there are still some porky smokers out there, so even smoking eventually fails at this. The key is exercise & changing our eating habits, which we should all be doing anyway. :8o: We've all started new lives or as i prefer to say, are carrying on from life prior to smoking. We are not reliant or being held back by nicotine addiction anymore so walking, biking, running, whatever.... does becomes enjoyable. This is a great place to find plenty of posts on this subject. hope this little bit helps My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 405 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 10,128 Amount Saved: $2632.5 Life Gained: Days: 58 Hrs: 1 Mins: 9 Seconds: 26

IF I CAN STOP SMOKING - - - - S O C A N Y O U a n d y o u

Ka CHING ! lordy lord, i'm still saving more $$$$$$ than i care to imaging :p & smokers still keepa grumbling over the price of smokes going up & up :8o:. Flippen hoik 10,000 cigaretts not smoked - - - - by crikey !....... thats an absolutely rediculous amount of cigaretts; All i can say is i must have a clean pair of lungs. I Saw 2 smokers outside work today puffing up large & having a real moan-up, & i used to think cigarettes made me happy (not), i had to walk past actually holding my breath cos...... wait for it... (& i never thought i would ever say this)....... the smell of smoke is starting to make me feel a tad bit nauseous. For all you new quitters out there it's all in the mind & it gets so much easier to deal with. I compare my quit to letting go of my first true love, it takes time to heal the hurt. May the force be with you. Done Lost my Mind

GPW, Don't worry so much its not good for the body. Anyone can get cancer. I personally know of 5 people who developed cancer & never smoked, 3 of these people where real heath nuts. i know of many smokers & ex-smokers who havn't developed cancer. life is a gamble, you can't go through life waiting for something to happen. Statistics... you need to realise that smokers are easy targets. Manipulated Statistics & 'scare tacticts' are common order of the day as anti smoking lobbies struggle to target the smoking especially the youth, so i wouldn't go believing all the statistics you read, however any anti smoking campaign is a good one especially if it stops people smoking as it is bad for you & nicotine addiction is no fun. Search the web if you want to know more. if i was you i would go visit a different doctor if it worries you, if only for piece of mind but honestly you'd know if you had emphysema, you'd be constantly out of breath & need an oxygen supply handy i don;t see the point worrying about your DNA, a sausage can alter your DNA but it doesn't stop people eating them!. FYI, environmental factors can effect our lives ie, .i was diagnosed with athsma (by a doctor who used test equipment) but it turned out i was just living in a damp house, i moved house athsma no more. I used to worry all the time & it's just not worth it, it pays to enjoy the hand that life deals you. even better if you don't rely on smokes to get you through. i hope this helps My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 403 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 10,077 Amount Saved: $2619.5 Life Gained: Days: 57 Hrs: 18 Mins: 10 Seconds: 4

this is so hard

Judy, we all get 'cravings' but i guess time heals. The key is to embrace & enjoy the process of being a non-smoker, It is only then that you will be able to win this emotional battle in the search for inner peace. Fight the good fight ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 399 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,979 Amount Saved: $2593.5 Life Gained: Days: 57 Hrs: 4 Mins: 41 Seconds: 22

Cig and NRT free - how many seconds a day do you still want a cigarette?

Shevie has nailed it ! ditto ... Firstly i need to make clear that i have never 'wanted' a cigarette since i quit. here you go. 1. Completely Nicotine Free ...... Meter says it. 2. I wouldn't say 'crave', i would spend probably 30 seconds a day with only an empty feeling of "i used to do that" this is usually triggered when i see or smell one, it's important not to dwell on this thought. 3. as sbove, usually triggered by other smokers or Sometimes i would feel 'something is missing' when i finish something i would have usually rewarded myself with a smoke, but it's only momentarily. 4. Don't replace smoking with another bad habbit. Being around other smokers (my family) has helped me deal with my quit big time, i've learnt that smokers are scared of us non-smokers, they are so terrified we are going to tell them to stop smoking. Work - Social and Smoke Breaks

Hi there, I work in an office environment on computers & office bound during my Working Day. Like most of you i would have smoke breaks usually every 45 minutes which would include morning / afternoon tea & lunch. During these breaks i would go outside for 10 minutes & colaborate my thoughts / take 5 / take in the natural daylight / de-stress / breath fresh air & catch up on office gossip.... all whilst having a cigarette. I would always look forward to & enjoy these breaks with other friendly smoking co-workers & always outside as there is no smoking in or around any workplace here in New Zealand since i can remember. I found giving up these breaks the damned hardest thing i ever had to do as these were my 'recharge breaks'. Since i quit i've also stopped taking morning, afternoon tea & lunch breaks. I don't associate with smoking co-workers anymore as we've sort of drifted apart since my quit and i find conversation with non-smoking co-workers sterile ? ie. they like to talk about themselves & sport alot, either which i'm not into. Now my breaks consists of an occasional walk around the block at lunchtime. Sometimes i would feel sad about it. Don't get me wrong, i don't mind the lack of breaks as i do enjoy my work, but I've also noticed a manager & a co-worker here at work both ex-smokers of 3 years that don't stop for morning / afternoon tea or lunch either, they work through the day without any breaks also. What i would like to know is.. 1. Does anyone else have the same issue ? 2. is this a trend developing between ex-smokers ? 3. What have you done to get around it ? 4. do smokers make better conversation ? sorry for rambling but i look forward to seing your comments. Coffee or Tea???

yup, when i smoked i'd nock back 6 cups a day easy. I love my coffee, i also swore not to give this up but after i quit smoking i realised i was literally bouncing of the walls. I now drink tea instead & it definately calms the body. Changing from a cofee drinker to tea was a learning experience, i didn't realise cofee had such a profound effect on the mind. i still gotta have my morning cofee though.
