HELP! for G---

Hi, G---. Congratulations on your quit and welcome to the SSC. I used Wellbutrin XL for the first month of my quit and I think it helped a lot in the beginning. Most people are really surprised at what quitting smoking is really like. They hear that the nicotine is out of your system in 3 days and assume that is as long as recovery lasts. What isn't widely known is that nicotine is a strongly addictive drug, just like heroin and cocaine. I don't know why this info isn't more widely spread, but it isn't. Don't try going this alone, G---, that's just too scarey. Stay close to this site, read, post questions, learn as much as you can about what may be coming up. Remember that forewarned is forearmed. Need Advice - HELP PLEASE

Hi, Dreamer. Day 1 is rough, isn't it. Days 2 and 3 are going to be, too, I won't lie to you. But you can do this. First you have to get through the physical withdrawal from the nicotine. Whatever you have to do, drink water, eat food, make love (read your other thread :)), then do it for as long as you need to. Any water-logging, weight gain, or wear and tear can be fixed later. Right now you must focus on getting through the first 3 days. It does get easier, Dreamer. And it hasn't really been 3 months since you quit yesterday, regardless of how it feels. :) Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 241 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,830 Amount Saved: $915.8 Life Gained: Days: 45 Hrs: 0 Mins: 40 Seconds: 55

Not getting support from my husband :(

Hi, Denisey. I've gone through your other posts and I see no indication that your husband smokes. If that's true, then he has no idea what you're going through right now. All he sees is a big negative change in his wife since she quit with no end in sight. I've often thought there needs to be a support group for the friends and family of those quitting smoking like there is for other addictions. They are the ones that are on the receiving end of our withdrawal tantrums. A lot of information says that the nicotine is out of your system in 3 days. That's true, more or less, but many people assume that means the addiction is over. Nothing is further from the truth. All that means is the physical withdrawal symptoms are over. But the psychological and emotional withdrawal continues for days, weeks, sometimes even months after; for as long as it takes until we learn (behaviour modification) to live without nicotine. I suggest you apologize to him (even if you don't think you're in the wrong). Apologize for what has been said and what will be said. Explain to him that you're going through an emotional rollercoaster that you have no control over and that it will calm down soon. Don't know exactly when, but soon. And make sure you reward yourself. Rewards are very important to your brain's recovery from the years of smoking. They don't have to cost anything, they just have to make you happy. When you feel like blowing up, come here to do it. We don't mind at all. On my third day I detonated all over the Demon Busters (poor folks). Hang in there Denisey. It does get better. :) Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 241 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,830 Amount Saved: $915.8 Life Gained: Days: 45 Hrs: 0 Mins: 39 Seconds: 46

Could use your help

Hi, Moots. Congratulations on your decision to quit smoking and welcome to the SSC. I think the reason you didn't get the expected response to your first post was that it was buried in a thread. You did the right thing by starting your own. There's been so much activity around here since the New Year that if you don't wave a flag in front of us we may not see you. It has nothing to do with your not being quit yet. Coming here early and learning as much as you can before the big day is a wise decision. So read all you want and ask as many questions as you want. Make sure you do it in a new thread (wave the flag). Glad you joined us, Moots. :) Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 240 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,819 Amount Saved: $912 Life Gained: Days: 44 Hrs: 22 Mins: 10 Seconds: 4

could use some advice

Hi, elgino. Congratulations on your two months quit and welcome to the SSC. I don't have any patch experience (Wellbutrin quitter), but from what I've seen here some people do go through withdrawal at each stepdown. What little nicotine is in your system from the last patch will be gone in about three days, two of which are already past. After that time the cravings should ease off. Hang in there, elgino. Someone with more patch experience will be along shortly. :) Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 240 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,819 Amount Saved: $912 Life Gained: Days: 44 Hrs: 22 Mins: 14 Seconds: 22

Is this normal? I mean NO CRAVINGS at all?

That's fantastic, Messa! I'm really glad to hear you've found a distraction in your pony and stories, and also really glad to hear your boyfriend has followed you into his own quit, too. Happy Day!! :) Good luck on your book. I'm looking forward to it.
