Time to bow out

Hi BFS, You will be missed on a daily basis...your posts were so helpful to so many. Take the time you need for yourself and you will find you can 'pop in' to SSC from time to time. At first you will feel a bit left out as you are not posting daily or for so long, but soon you will get used to that. Take hold of your new smoke-free life....embrace it! SSC can be a small part, but... NEVER LOOK BACK, THE FUTURE IS AHEAD!!! Lolly. :) PS. Make sure you come back here IMMEDIATELY if you feel you may slip!!! Need a Little Help/Advice

Hi QuitorDie, When I quit, I was used to drinking a US beer or two each evening. The quit made me look forward to those beers a lot more, as they took the edge off the cravings. I admit that they 'went to my head' a lot faster than they had before I quit. For this reason, I decided only 1 beer before dinner and maybe one with, unless I had a glass of wine with dinner instead. I'm a Brit. by the way. By limiting myself, I did not replace one addiction with another. Now, over 1 year quit, my drinking habits have neither increased or decreased....Well.....we live in France now, so maybe I have an extra glass of wine now and again. As Sheller said, just watch that you do not NEED that drink....at that point you do need to be careful. I was of the opinion when I quit, that whatever it took I would not smoke a cigarette, and whatever helped me was OK. I may have been lucky, but there is also no need to become paranoid about alcohol either. Just be aware, that your body cannot tolerate the same amount of caffeine, alcohol and other substances that it could when you were smoking. Equally, it may crave things you did not crave when smoking, such as candy sweet things and, just maybe, alcohol. Take one day at a time and be careful. Well done for getting this far. WAHTEVER IT TAKES, JUST DON'T SMOKE!!! Lolly. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/25/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 413 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 14,477 Amount Saved: 2065 Life Gained: Days: 57 Hrs: 13 Mins: 14 Seconds: 28

Not liking this one bit

Hi I Quit, As Newbkr says, it depends how you are using Nicorette and so on. If you are using NRT intermittently, you will have stronger craves in the long run. NRT is meant to be used in a controlled manner, and in a steadily decreasing way, so that you are weaned slowly off the Nicotine. The gum used to give me terrible mouth ulcers and made me feel rotten. I found this time that NICOTINELL gum, with a peppermint taste is much better, but as you are in the US I do not know if you can get this. Anyway, I found the gum to be too strong in one piece and started cutting it into smaller pieces and taking it a little more often. This stopped my mouth ulcers, reduced the huge cravings and allowed me to be more in control when it came to cutting down. It's a question of doing what you can with what is available. BTW, my gums bled too....I looked like Dracula's daughter!!!...it's the increrased oxygen reaching the small blood vessels in your gums. It will stop soon, and your whole mouth, teeth and gums, will be a lot healthier. Hang on in there my friend......I promise you it does get so much better. We all had Hell at the start, but, looking back it was soooo worth it!!! Please do keep coming here when you are having a bad time....this is the best place to be! I nearly lived here for the first few weeks! ((((((HUGS))))) to you. Stay Strong! Lolly. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/25/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 413 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 14,477 Amount Saved: 2065 Life Gained: Days: 57 Hrs: 13 Mins: 16 Seconds: 17

Welcome Orel, There are people from all over the place on this site, tho' the majority are from North America. Just take a look at the coinage in amount save to get an idea. I'm a Scot, but I live in France. The last person I knew from Israel on this site was a very successful quitter!!! I wish you all the success she had.
