Symptom Tracker Question

Hi,

I just started the program and made my first entry in the symptom tracker today. It has been a very quiet day and I checked off "I did not have a panic attack today", yet the Daily Results view shows "Total Panic Attacks: 1" (also, "Triggered by a situation or thought?" displays "Yes", when the question shouldn't actually apply.) Is this normal? If so, how does one keep track of the number of attacks that truly happened?

Thanks.

Symptom Tracker Question

Thanks, Shari--it's good to know I'm not the only person encountering this bug. I'll do as you suggested until it's fixed.

Ashley, thank you for addressing this so quickly. Looking forward to proceeding with the program.

Symptom Tracker Question

Thanks for the kind welcome, Shari! It's so cool that your daughter is a graphic novelist; I'm a big fan of the genre. The avatar is from Neil Gaiman's well-known series, Sandman, with which she is probably familiar.

Forum Question

Not sure if this is the right place for this question; please let me know if I should post this elsewhere. On Jan. 14, I made a new topic with the words "weird symptom" in the title (don't recall the exact phrase) on the "Understanding Panic and Agoraphobia" subforum, asking about how to deal with a specific symptom. After hitting "submit", it was the first discussion listed on the subforum's page, so it was posted successfully. That post is now nowhere to be found. Was it removed for some reason? Did I inadvertently violate a forum guideline? Are there topics which we shouldn't discuss in the support forums?

It'd be great if someone can let me know what happened as I would like to know if I made a mistake, so that it can be avoided in the future. It's particularly upsetting in this instance because the topic was one that I'm very sensitive about and it was very difficult to write that post.

Thank you!

Forum Question

Hi sunny23, kaitie995, hugs4U, thanks for the kind welcome. Glad you saw the thread as well, so I didn't imagine the whole thing. Phew. :-)

hugs4U, that's a great suggestion; I'll try that if no mod responds here. Where can the feedback page be found?

Davit, thanks for pointing that out. I didn't know that would trigger an email notification. Unfortunately, I just checked my account, including the spam folder, and didn't find anything regarding the missing thread. I'm really puzzled as to why the topic would be deemed problematic.

Forum Question

Thanks, everyone--your suggestions and reassurances really mean a lot to me. I was worried that I've somehow started off here badly, in addition to feeling bad about losing that particular post given its topic. Your kindness and explanations have put my mind at ease. Now I have to go find the guts to write it again; I hope by then you would not mind sharing your insights once more even if you've done so on the lost thread already.

Davit, you're very much correct about the importance of mastering rules and theory when it comes to expression. It seems paradoxical, but the theoretical framework is what sets intuition and imagination free.

PS: The avatar is from Neil Gaiman's wonderful graphic novel series, The Sandman.

How to Challenge a Specific Thought?

Hi,

I'm now at the stage in the program where we come up with challenge thoughts for our anxieties, such as "No one has ever died of a panic attack, so I'm not danger of dying despite my racing heart." My most prominent symptom is thinking and feeling like I have to urinate. This can be triggered by thoughts like "how can I get to the bathroom in this crowd?" or "I have to stay put until the presentation is over." However, a lot of times, the feeling of urgency comes on its own, and the first anxious thought I'm aware of is "I feel like I have to pee."

It seems plausible that people could lose bladder control when panicked, so how should I go about challenging this particular thought? Telling myself that I just went to the restroom doesn't help because I know bladders don't empty completely with normal voiding.

I posted a similar question a while ago, but it was lost due to a glitch on the website; it didn't receive any answers I was aware of, but if you've responded to it, please do so again. Any new responses are obviously welcome as well.

Thanks for your help and have a great day.
