Stopped Smoking on 9th Febuary, 2014

Hi, I have finally decided to quit smoking on 9th Feb, 2014. I had my last cigarette on this day. I smoked a pack per day (20 cigarettes) for 3 years. From 5th Feb to 9th Feb, I had very bad cough. I thought my lungs would come out when i used to cough. I will update here my daily progress for those who are trying to quit and have same issues:

9th to 13th February: Sharp pain in chest on both sides was felt randomly for few seconds. Not only chest but similar sharp pains were also experienced in stomach. Both pains started on the same date.
14th February: My tongue started to dry. I had worst night after leaving smoking.
15th February: I went to doctor with specialization in chest examination. He asked me to go for chest X-RAY. I had chest X-RAY and doctor said that everything seems normal except my lungs have gone though possible inflation due to excessive forceful cough which kind of damaged my lungs and possibly stomach too. Doctor said there is no symptom of lung cancer at all. He gave me a tablet which is used as pain-killer as well as helps in fixing lungs inflation.
16th February: I took tablet and slept calmly. The ration of chest pain has decreased significantly and also stomach pains are very less now.
17th February: Called doctor again and he said it will take some time, probably a week more to cure my lungs.

Stopped Smoking on 9th Febuary, 2014

@Ashley: I do not have any choice actually. Fear of death and love of my family is the key motivation. Also I am not fortunate enough to get married yet :P, so I definitely plan to get married in a year or two.
@Penitent: You are very right. I have no more left to smoke anyway but getting my health back is another key point in distraction from getting back to smoking.
@Whisper: Brother, I am asking GOD for only one more chance this time and I won't smoke again :)
@Working On It: Chest X-RAY is clear but shows pneumonia in past. Doctor said pneumonia was the real cause I was coughing so bad which actually got my lungs and stomach muscles damaged.
@Lolly 2: I really appreciate your support.

18th February: Chest pains have dropped from 80% to 50% now. Stomach pains have also dropped but not as much. So, I went to the stomach expert doctor today to get the stomach examined. She said to get the CBC, LFTs and Fasting Liquid Profile test tomorrow.

Stopped Smoking on 9th Febuary, 2014

19th February: Today lab guys took my blood sample. I said, ok this is the first test, what about rest of 2? They said all 3 tests (CBC, LFTs and Fasting Liquid Profile) only require a blood sample. Reports will be available tomorrow morning.

Tips:
  1. Guys, though I don't have a cough now but sometimes whenever I have random cough, I try not to cough hard. Lesson learned already that coughing hard will damage your lungs and stomach muscles.
  2. I have been drinking alot of water. Not too much water that it might have bad effect on my kidneys. Everything is good in proportion.
  3. If you have pain in chest, try to change your side or location or move your body. If it goes, then you are safe. This means it was a muscular pain. If pain is constant and happens on a single point only, you need to get this checked on serious basis.
  4. Chest X-RAY is always a good way to find what is going on with your chest but do get the detailed result of X-RAY. It usually takes 2-3 days for labs to get you the detailed result. Doctor will only give you initial remarks by looking at X-RAY but you can count only on what lab reports say.

Stopped Smoking on 9th Febuary, 2014

@Penitent: Very well. Thank you.

20th February, 2014: Received X-Ray and blood test reports today. Cholesterol is high and X-Ray report shows interstitial marking on lungs caused by smoking. As per doctor, it may take month to get my lungs 99% repaired. So, I need to start running. In evening today, i walked a mile from my home and came back. While walking, i had chest pain but when i was coming back to my home, chest pain decreased significantly. Right now, while I am on bed and writing this, there is no pain.

So what is plan for next 7 days? Walk, run, drink alot of water, avoid oily food and try to breath fresh air by waking up early in morning.

Guys when we talk about leaving smoking then have you ever thought seriously who are these people? I have categorized them into two:

Those who have something to lose: That something can be your family, your friends, your wife, your children or your beloved. If you do not want to leave them, then you should quit smoking right NOW. Who knows your next single puff of cigarette proves lethal for you?
Those who have lost everything: If you have no one in this world to take care of then you are wrong. There is always one person to whom you should take care all the time. That's YOU. You should fear death. If you are not fearing death, then it means you are not following some religion. It is always better to follow some religion to keep yourself bound into limits.

I would love to hear your opinion on this? I belong to first category.

Stopped Smoking on 9th Febuary, 2014

21st February, 2014: Stopped taking pain-killers and started to take juices and a regular walk of 1 mile after lunch and 2 miles after dinner. Stomach still hurts, that's why i never stopped taking medicines for stomach.
22nd February 2014: Chest pains are 90% gone. Now fighting stomach pains. Bananas, walk, water and juices are my current medicines.

Next week plan: Increase stamina I have lost because of smoking. Guys for like 3 years, I had office job (btw i still have it) and my routine never included walk but it was: Sleep -> Go to office -> Lunch -> Back to office -> Home -> Dinner -> Sleep

Stopped Smoking on 9th Febuary, 2014

Thanks all. Today was the first day when i totally forgot I have pain in chest or stomach since there was no pain at all. I am also drinking half liter of milk instead every day.

Lastly, I need few suggestions from you: How can i stop people i know, like my colleagues from smoking? I mean what is the most effective way to persuade them not to smoke? I am thinking to make some video on it. Like show people what actually smoking do to our lungs, heart and other stuff. A video which will create kind of horror and hate in themselves for smoking. I plan to go in every university in my area and show them this video on projector. What do you say?

Stopped Smoking on 9th Febuary, 2014

24 February, 2014 to 5th March, 2014: I have now started to jogging for 500 meters while I walk for 2 KM every day. Also joined gym to get my body in shape. However, I am having some bad time while running. Pain in chest starts if i run for more than 500 meters. However, I believe its due to increase in heartbeat and because my stamina is low. It will take sometime to get everything back to normal. Not doing walk for past 5 to 6 years and sitting on chair and sleeping definitely have effected my stamina very bad.

Stopped Smoking on 9th Febuary, 2014

Hi folks! I need some help here. There are situations in which you cannot avoid passive smoking. Like your boss wants you to talk while he is also smoking. You can never go away or ask him to stop smoking because he is an a**. Also sometimes you are with friends who go out with you on outing, and they smoke infront of you. You can never step on the other side of the road and talk to them loudly etc. I need some serious suggestions how to avoid passive smoking?
