Hi all, and firstly to you all, congratultions. This is not my first time at giving up smoking. My motivation is high as my best friend of 23 years passed away 2 weeks ago as a result of a stroke, she was a smoker as well. Makes you realise how important life. I haven't had a smoke for 24 hrs now and am just doing it one hour one day at a time. all the best to you all.
On day two of been smoke free, my mother passed away, too much for me to handle and I went back to the cigarettes. This has been a very mad month and am stuggling too cope with the sadness and what has been a horrible rollercoaster of all the emotions that come with greiving. I have now set a new date, which is the 1st of July. I am looking forward to starting a new healthy life and want to live a long happy life for my family. I can still remember the two days smoke free, gee I smelt fantastic, not masking the smell of smoke with perfume, but wearing perfume to smell lovely. I havent been to the gym for a month but will get back into it next week.
NRT usually have instructions about weaning off over the course of 3 months, at week 3/4 you should reduce the amount or strenght of the patch, then again at week 7/8 and again at 11/12 weeks. at the end of this you should have weaned off nicotine and mastered the skill to remain smoke free.
Hi Alexa, and congratultions on making the first step. I am restarting my smoke free life journey on the 2 July, so we will work through this together. I too enjoy smoking, well at least some parts of it, it has always been my time out, but to be honest the money the smell and the unseen health risks that it is causing really is off putting. I enjoy reading what people have to say on this site and find it all helpful. WE CAN AND WE WILL DO THIS.
Great to hear you have had a good smoke free weekend. Keep up the great work. My first day completed yesterday (2nd June NZ) and am feeling fantasic this morning. Great to read you comments and those of others, great motivation and very inspiring. Have a great week.
Great to hear you have made a decision to be a non smoker again. One day at a time. Great motivation to be healthy and a good role model for you young ones, you will soon notice the extra energy you have. Lynne
Have a great smokefree weekend. Enjoy your reward, my suggestion would be buying a good book and settle in for the weekend and have a good read.
I am facing my second smokefree weekend, my plan is to do the housework, shopping (groceries) then off for a swim, the weather is meant to be horribile for sunday so will be warm inside watching tv, possibly may do some home baking.
Well the first two weeks have gone well, I am feeling great, the nasty cough has disappeared and am feeling more energetic. I love the new smelling me..
Induldged myself on Saturday, Haircut, eyebrow shape, new jeans, boots and 4 new tops. Lunch out with my husband, even enjoyed a glass of wine.
This has not been my first attempt at quiting, over the last 9 years I have quit 3 times. Now I am 9 years older and can really feel the effects of smoking and can see the damage it is doing, not only with myself but after the loss of two very dear people. It was an easy decision to become a non smoker, I need to live a long healthy life for my family, and of course my first grandchild due Jan/Feb 2013. The other factor is the cost of smoking $14.40 NZ$ for one packet of 20, at my heaviest I was smoking a packet a day, hmmmm that is a lot of money.
Dont get me wrong, it isnt easy and I do have my moments, but they do pass quickly, drink water or sucking on a mint lollie.
