Round two - three years later

Hi. New to this forum, old into smoking. Well, at least until yesterday. Yesterday it was the first day of the new path I chose. I am on the patch so it was not too bad. But the cravings are there. The grumpiness and anxiety. That feeling that I don't know what to do when I want to get away from things... Not easy. Not pleasant either... Not for me or the ones around me for that matter - been cranky and edgy all day.
I tried to quit three years ago, also on the patch, and it went great for three months. But the first big fight and I was back on a pack a day in no time... I want it to be different this time! I have a ten year older that needs her mom around for as long as possible...
Do I miss the cigarettes? Just the habit, for now. I know it will get worse before it gets better. So I am -kinda- pacing myself. But it's a tough battle.
I am concerned with the weight gain since I started exercising a month ago and I was getting in shape, losing weight and stuff. My mind tells me first things first... but it took me forever to convince myself I need to exercise. And if I don't see the results I know I'll slack off... Decisions, decisions... I guess this is a real test for my will power! Let's see if I am as tough as I think I am... lol.
But for now is breathing in, breathing out and try to enjoy life without the addiction...
Wish me luck guys. I know I'll need it.
Cristina

This was a TOUGH one!!!

What a way to start your day!!! OK so this is day three of Hell week. It surely started like this. I have been good with changing my morning routine so far. Did not need to get rid of my morning coffee but I am having it after my exercise, shower, making lunches and stuff. When I set my start date I did on the 5th because I knew that my husband - smoker - will be away all week at a training course in Georgia. So I figured it would make things a tad easier not having to deal with the "why can't you come and sit with me while I'm smoking". And I know I was right! But he was aware that I will quit! Do you think for a second that I heard him once asking how it's going??? Oh no, it was all about the training, about how he's doing, about the weather... you name it! I am pretty short on patience to begin with. So now, with the changes going on, my fuse is even shorter!!! So this morning, I really could not cope with the lack of support anymore. And boy did I get in his face... Got madder than I thought I was capable of and told him everything I could about his selfishness... Hung up the phone, hyperventilanting... wanting SO bad to get a puff - just one... But I didn't!!! I DIDN'T!!! I turned on the computer and here I am, venting! Sorry! But it was the only alternative I had. Is it just me or it sucks when you don't have ANY support whatsoever??? Looking at the bright side - I made it. First real challenge and I made it. I am a non-smoker! Yay.

UT OH...HERE WE GO!!

I'm there with you Featherdance! Just posted my own hell for day three... But you know what??? It does not matter what anyone is saying or doing. We chose our path. We decided we don't want to smoke anymore! So, at the end of the day, it lays in our lap if we give in or not. Life is a b$#@%^ at times. And it will be, with or without that cigarette. So hang in there and you'll be fine - just think of it as the challenges that the little devil is throwing our way to see if we give in. I am stubborn enough to say "bring it on, I am tough, I can take it". And you surely sound the same! Good luck and be good - to yourself!

This was a TOUGH one!!!

Doing MUCH better now. Thank you all for your support - it does help!!! And it is true that if you can hold off for just a bit, and a bit more, and another five minutes... the cravings do go away. Sunshine, your idea is great - posting and waiting for five replies... that would take care of the cravings...
Be good, take care and N.O.P.E.

idiot sticks

cvdeb,

Do you know how strong you are??? I wouldn't play with the fire like this ever. I don't trust myself enough to think that I wouldn't - at least - get a puff. Wow!

Great job in staying quit. One day I'll get there too.

I was doing so well... then... it happened

It's OK! Just don't give in to your habit again. You said it yourself: it tasted like $%^&. So why crave it, right? Move on, put the patch back on if it helps you (sure does the trick for me...), breath in and start over.
We're here and we understand your struggle. I'm right there with you

Day 3

Great job shamenomore
I am a few days behind but I already know that one of my rewards needs to be a detailing of my car. This used to be a smoker's car - and it stinks accordingly - yuck! Even though I tried the Fabreze and the air fresheners... not quite there yet.
And I really don't like the perpetual reminder... not to mention that my clothes keep smelling too... It's so funny when you thing about it... I smoked almost two pack a day for 24 years and the smell never bothered me. Now, after four days I realize what I've put the non-smokers through... I guess this is payback time, huh?
Keep up the good work guys! You all are so much help and such an inspiration!
