It's been 7 days for me and am I still hoping I will find a lost one in my car or house. Thinking just 1 won't hurt. But I definitely don't want to buy a pack and I don't want to start all over. The voices go back and forth. It is quite amazing. I think they are becoming more insistent because they realize I am serious. I shall keep repeating I am not a smoker. I am not a smoker. Does it get easier after heck week? Hell week is pretty hard.

I am feeling a little better today. I realized as I was blow drying my hair this morning that I hadn't spent 5-10 minutes this morning hacking and coughing up gross stuff. It was a great feeling to be free of that.

I used to do the same thing. My parents smoked so it was easy to hide it I thought because the house smelled anyway. I knew I was busted though when one day my Dad asked if he could borrow a cigarette because he had run out. So he knew. I have been a closet smoker the last couple of years trying to hide it from most people hence the mints, cologne etc. The other day I gave my daughter a great big hug and it was so nice not worrying about whether I smelled or not.

Hi Megan - You did come to the right place. Everyone is very helpful and I find it great to check in when I am having a craving. I realize that I am not alone in what I am feeling and many have gone through it. The support here is great. Also, I find the milestone tracker helpful as I don't want to have to start all over again. While it may be tough at first it gets easier. Once you decide to finally quit you just have to keep your eye on the target and remember the benefits - not smelling like smoke, saving money and better health. I like being able to hug friends and family and not worrying about whether I smell. You have to decide when it is right for you. I orginally planned on setting my date as April 1st as that was when the federal tax was going up. The price of cigarettes went up a few weeks before that where I live and were well over $7:00 a pack and I had been telling myself the past year that I would quit when they got over $7:00. But then something inside me told me I had to quit on March 26th. I realized it was the 6 th anniversary of my father's death due to cancer that was proably the result of his smoking. So while I didn't feel quite ready I set that as the date anyway as I knew that it would be hard no matter what date I set and I was just putting off the inevitable. I wish the best of luck

Welcome to the group. You've made the 1st step. I have also tried to quit before and started again. Like you said that first cigarette after stopping always tasted bad and made me dizzy but then I would start again. Now when I want one I try and focus on how bad that first one after a quit made me feel.

My mother smoked all during her pregnancy's with my sister and I. It was very common back then for women to smoke as many of the health risks weren't known by the general public back then. I would not worry so much that you have caused terrible harm at this point. But I would still work very hard to quit to decrease any odds of harm. I was lucky - I was so nauseous when I was pregnant that it was easy to quit with no cravings. I had quit for 15 years and then started again when I was going through a divorce. Not one of the brightest things I ever did as I am having a much harder time quitting this time.

Hang in there. I am on day 19 and struggling this morning. I find that if I check in a few times a day and just read I can keep going. I realized at the end of the day on Sunday I hadn't had any cravings that day as I was so busy. So it will get easier as I have hopes that those types of days will become more frequent.
