Trying again - 2nd day!

K. I'm trying again quitting.   Have been smoking since I was 16 and stopped for 5 years about 14 years ago.  And then we moved and I started up again in our new location..   During the last 14 years we have lived here I have stopped about 4 additional times for periods of 2-16 weeks. 
 
So here I am again giving it another shot.   The times I have quit have not been excessively hard on me, but I realize the only times I have given in is when I am having a drink or two.   Since we live in a small town and in the sticks going out to the local pub is basically our only activity that husband and myself do together on a social level. 
 
So I know this is when it is going to be the hardest for me and that is the only times I have relapsed before.  Will try the deep breathing, go outside and go for a quick walk etc. when I feel the urge this time.

Having a Tough Day?

What I have started to do - is do like sit-ups or tummy crunches etc.  it only take about 1-2 minutes of doing this and the craving is gone. 
 
This way your also getting some exercise in at the same time your waiting for your craving to end.  cravings only last about 5 min tops.   So if you do some quick exercise you totally for get about your craving and when you are done you really are not thinking of a cig anymore.  And you also just helped to tighten up to muscles in your body at the same time.
 
"kills two birds in one stone" as the saying goes.

What have I done

This is kind of odd a lot of us seem like we have not told anyone right away that we were trying to quite. - this time I did not tell anyone either that I was quitting smoking.  All the other times I told my friends, I didn't even tell my husband although it was obvious that I had.  Also this time was not really planned.. I just ran out of cigs and then didn't feel like driving up to the store just to get some.   So after a few hours I thought to myself maybe now lets give it a shot again.   Well 6th day coming up and no cigs, and have have not told any of my friends.    Holiday weekend coming up which will be a challenge.

50 days congrats - I totally understand about the nicodemon. 
 
But I do love cats (I have two spoiled rotton ones at home) amazing what can be done with computer graphics/effects now-a-days!

Yeah don't beat yourself up about it.   Sometimes it takes people multiple times of trying to quit before it is done.

Welcome back although I am relatively new.  Nice to hear you are quiting again - we all know sometimes it takes multiple times of trying to quit before you actually succeed.   It has happened to me each time it gets easier and easier.  One day we each will have our final time and the quit will be pernament.

All is fine - your going to get back on the quitters wagon again soon I can just feel it! 
 
Quitting is not an easy process as we all know.   This is the first time I have quit where I am actually admitting smoking is an addiction and not really a habit persay.   A habit is easier to break (or so I think) then an addiction and this smoking addiction is one tough monkey to get off the back.
 
Hang in there, don't feel so bad you smoked a few cigs (you feel as if you left yourself down) but when your ready jump back up on the wagon and go at it again.  Just a small relaspe is all this is!
 
Hang in there and sorry to hear about your life stress problems!  Hang in there through this, there will be an ending to this chapter in your life whatever the outcome is.  Life will go on and you will find a way to adapt to whatever the outcome is.  With every negative thing that has happened in my life and there has been many as I am sure with us all.  I have always tried to turn a negative into a positive (sounds easier said then done) but believe it or not most negatives can have a postiive lining if you really try and see between the lines.

Handling Smoke

Well, I guess there is no sure fire way to handle when others smoke.  As that is going to be part of life, but I can suggest that since you said she smokes in your car you could politely ask if she would not smoke in your car, as it is making it hard on you.  The house might be a little different if you are sharing the expenses on the house as then it is part theres also.
 
Not sure of your situation, I guess just talk to them about your concerns and see if you can work out a happy medium.

Time has run out for me

Welcome!  So saddened to hear of your illness, this is a very trying time for you and your family right now which is totally understandable.   Yes you may required to quit smoking in order to be elligible for this "treatment", but please think of quitting as something you are doing for yourself and not because your children, family, doctor or husband wants you to do it.  Deciding to quit to smoke is a very personal experience.   They will of course benifit from you quitting by the inspiration that you will show them, the feeling of accomplishment you will feel (your whole outlook even through this trying time) will be a more positive one even if you don't think so right at the moment.
 
You have set your start date - and start on that date or even start earlier if you feel like it!  The choice is yours and yours alone.  We are here for you to help you on your way, personal as friends as your going through this difficult health time in your life and also as companions that are going through or have gone through the same quitting stages of smoking as you will be going through. 
 
Whether or not you decide to tell anyone you are quitting is totally up to you.  This time when I decided to quit I choose not to tell anyone.  For some reason it feels better then when I did tell people the other times I tried to quite I felt whoever I told was watching me to see if I am lighting up, waiting for me to see if I am going to suceed or not.  For whatever reason I feel better this time within myself being the only one who knows.  Of course this is a personal preference and there is no wrong or right way to do so.
 
Your situation is a bit different then some of the others as you really have a life threatening concern that requires you to quit.  Do not think of this as bad this is a positive thing (not your illness) but you really have a critical reason for you to stop smoking at this point in your life.  Use this as a boost for your own self image to quit and not because everyone else wants you to.
 
Take it minute by minute - then hour by hour - then day by day.  As you go on the minutes will get easier, the hours will get easier and then the days will get easier.   Your first week we call Hell week (this will be the hardest week for you as far as cravings) remember that during your first week and know that the second week will get better the third even better and so on.
 
Don't worry about rambling on - Look at me a perfect example of a rambler!! 
 
This is the first time ever I have been a participant in a forum for quitting smoking and it does help.  I didn't think it would at first but it really does.   I'm on the last day of my Hell week and I have visited here and posted daily.
