Dear All
what a terrible thing it is to think that this smoking has had such an impact on me and the people around me. It's overwhelming really to think of all the lost time and money and how its made me feel about myself. In fact thats probably why some quit attempts have not worked before, its overwhelming. I'm looking forward to getting to know you out there.
I've realised I have to quit alcohol to quit smoking. Don't know for how long. I like the idea of beer bone connected to the smoke bone.
I remember how when I've had a few drinks I forget how much i used to smoke. I would prectically be chain smoking.
So for me it wouldnt surprise me that I'd forget that i've quit. The trick is, I suppose, not to see it as "giving up" anything.
best to all
I liked this part of the thread particularly because if this quit is going to work I will have to get round the junky thinking voice that tries to convince that I dont care.
JUNKIE THINKING: "I don't care."
RESPONSE: "What is it exactly that I think that I don't care about? Can I truthfully say I don't care about chest pain? I don't care about gagging in the morning? I don't care about lung cancer? No, I care about these things very much. That's why I stopped smoking in the first place."
As I write it I remember being a child, how it never would have occured to me to smoke. it took a really smart sophisticated adult junky brain to do that!
Thanks for such a warm welcome. :). I have switched my meter on, and as you can see am 3 days in. I have a chest infection and finally listened to my body (wife, son and Dr!), got some patches and am quit.
(I nearly put a few qualifying words in there: maybe/trying to etc.)
I really hate this lightheaded feeling I have in my head and tingly fingers. And I hate the idea that im detoxing poisin gas.
I really like the idea of posting if I am going to smoke.
Thanks all. Means a lot.
Hope we can help each other.

Smokerella
I'm on Day 3 (just), struggling to concentrate on things and being edgy.
Is it time to start looking for one of those hobbies you've been searching for.
A friend gave me a good tip. Imagine you are on an aeroplane and cant smoke. You dont usually feel like it because you can't.
I'm still tryin it on to see if it works!
