Tips for Relaxing @ Work

Congratulations on day 3!

You are right in the middle of "Hell Week" it will be tough and you will experience withdrawal symptoms like lack of concentration. Be sure to get lots of rest and eat healthy. You may also want to talk to your doctor about nicotine replacement therapy or quit smoking medication if you need some help with the withdrawal symptoms.  Other then that understand you won't be at your best right now and that is ok, it will pass and soon you will feel better then ever. Have you talked to anyone at work about quitting smoking? It might be a good idea in order to get them on your team and also so they understand if you get a little (or alot) grumpy with them. In the long run it is good for a workplace to have employees who do not smoke - statistics show that people who do not smoke take less sick days and breaks so I am sure your workplace will be supportive of your choice.

It's my first day back to work since I started my quit. I'm on Day 3. The car ride to work was awful, I was doing my deep breathing exercises the whole time (I usually have 2 smokes on the way to work). Then I got to work, everything was OK until I had to go check on some things outside where I used to smoke...more deep breathing exercises had to be done. I'm not sure if I can make it through the day without taking a lot of breaks to go walk off all the cravings. I tried to start reading this scientific paper for work...LoL..I could even get past the first 2 sentences. I will try listening to music, I'm sure it will help with the cravings, but what can quitters do about the lack of concentration. ....I have already been slightly mean to one person..but I am pretending that I am just sick. Lets give this work day another try... here I go wish me good luck...

In the past week, we’ve been talking about stress management. Learning how to better manage sources of stress can help decrease the intensity of your craves. Here are a few tips to help you make the most of your break time:

  • Practice your deep breathing. Deep breathing improves circulation and eases muscle tension.
  • Check your e-mail. Subscribe to a messaging service that will send you daily jokes or inspirational quotes. A few funny or inspiring words can help lift your spirit and gain perspective
  • Turn on your radio to classical music has been shown to induce relaxation. Have it on in the background or tune in online. Many radio stations now have live feeds via the internet.
  • Stretch! Take a few minutes in between long tasks to take a stretch break. It can help increase alertness, improve blood flow and relieve tension.
