Your guide to quitting ? Setting a quit date

Newbies,

More than ever, you’re ready to quit. You’re well prepared, you have a plan and you’re ready to begin the final leg of your journey to a smoke free lifestyle.

Even though the tough part is ahead, take the time to take a pit-stop and congratulate yourself. Creating this plan took a lot of thought and a lot of energy, and you are now prepared and ready to face nicotine addiction head-on.

Your quit date may be tomorrow, or in the next few weeks. No matter where you are, you have great reasons for quitting.

Now it's time to record or set your quit date. Your quit date is the last day that you’ll ever smoke. Since you’ve put your quit plan together, you started down the path of being a non-smoker. You’re now ready.

Enter your quit date in your quit meter. When you set your quit date, make sure you:

  • Select a date within the next three weeks, but no more than three weeks from today.
  • Pick a date when your days are routine. For example, don’t pick a quit date if you are moving or if you will be going through a stressful event.
  • Remember: Women who experience PMS should pick a day during the two weeks after their monthly period (to minimize withdrawal symptoms).
  • Don’t put your day off too long, there is no perfect day.

Members,

How did you pick your date?

Samantha, Health Educator
